XCOM2 Rookie Class Assignment

I know this has been bought up before, but I haven't seen a solution yet.

I already know how to guarantee character pool rookies to show up in the game. I know character pool rookies getting promoted to random classes is intended behavior. I know if characters created in the character pool show up as a reward or are bought already promoted they will be their preferred class. I know the GTS can be used to level up soldiers to preferred classes without them even going on a mission one at a time and very slowly. I would like my soldiers to earn their promotions. I just wanted to get that all out of the way so everyone understands what I'm asking and what I don't know.

I just want to know if anyone has figured out a way to guarantee a character pool rookie (after going on a mission) getting promoted to their preferred class using an ini tweak or if we'll have to wait for a mod.

I was thinking it could be done by a logic like "Upon initial promotion check if character exists in the character pool then access preferred class info. Then circumvent random assignment logic."

I'm pretty sure there is no ini file solution for this. I have looked in the uc code and I haven't found it yet. There are multiple requests for the same thing:
