-targetpractice
I was just wondering whether there's a limit to the number of mods that can run at a time for Oblivion, and whether exceeding this limit causes CTDs (before the logo appears)? If so, is there a way around this? Any help would be appreciated

If so, is there a way around this? Any help would be appreciated :happy:The limit is somewhere around 150-250 mods active depending on how many mods skip addresses (for an unknown reason). However, even with a small amount of mods you may run into conflicts that may cause a crash to desktop. There are also factors like available ram, which mods need in order to be loaded. Running out of ram may be what is causing your CTD if you have less than 2gb, or are running anything other that oblivion while playing. It could also be problems within one of the mods (wrong game version), or running out of available addresses. You might want to try turning off 10 mods at a time, and seeing if it loads. When it does load, find something that is added by a mod near the end of your loading list (something persistant like a static, NPC, Container, anything which isn't generated by the game) open console, and click on it. Post the first two numbers (or letters) here.
anthropg
I had CTDs before the game could get loaded up and Wrye Bash was able to tell me which mods were the culprits. You can try that, though I don't know how often it works.
