combined armor mod thread

There are a few mods that deal with more armor types. This thread is about combining them and making a few small improvements. Here are the related mods.

All Armor Options by Doodil (olliz0r)
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/82/?
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=619230980
Allows any soldier or civilian armor to be equipped by any soldier, including rookies

Advent Armour by Dor (Volkser)
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/280/?
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=621966098
Allows soldiers to wear any of the Advent armor pieces or helmets

Uniforms Manager by Falcon
http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/285/?
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=626291285
Extends the soldier customization panel with uniform definitions that can be saved and exported

One objection people have had to All Armor Options and Advent Armor is that rookies may start out equipping any of these pieces. I have found a way to prevent that, so that only the soldier customization screen can be used to choose these pieces. This is done by changing the calls to BodyPartFilter in XGCharacterCustomization to only filter by gender. Unfortunately this requires copy/pasting the whole class, which means it will conflict with other mods that replace this.

I have locally copied Dor's armor upks and copy/modified his ini file. I modified the definitions so that soldiers will never equip them randomly. I hope to get his explicit permission for this before releasing, since it is his work.

There are some drawbacks to the mod so far, some of which can be solved by improvements to the Uniforms Manager.

1. For some torsos, choosing specific arms and legs may result in the soldier's arms and legs becoming invisible. If you find this, please choose the arms and legs options which are the last ones in the picklists. These allow the torso to supply its own arms and legs.

2. In the vanilla game, you may customize a soldier in the character pool, and use veteran options. When the soldier appears as a rookie, all these options are lost. The mod does not change this; these options are still lost.

3. The armor is not sticky. When you gain a new armor tech, the armor will be reset to armor for that tech.

4. The torso, arm and leg picklists only display numbers, just like the vanilla game. There are more options, so the numbers are larger.

For #3 and #4, it would be possible for the Uniform Manager to add a "sticky" button so the uniform would stay even after a tech upgrade, and to modify the UI for the display to use the armor piece names. The names aren't very interesting, like "Pwr_Arm_Hvy_1", but better than sequential numbers.

Sure I can look into that.

This feels like a standalone mod. Uniform Manager does not modify the underlying user interface except adding the entry points.

yeah and but it'll encourage people to give meaningful names to their armor legs and arms

It certainly could be standalone. But, your mod seems pretty popular, and it seems like it would fit into your mod pretty well.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Trust me though, it looks cool :-)

I got permission from Dor for his armors, maybe I will be able to upload this today.

Turns out you can now run a mission with Tygan, Shen and Bradford, or at least their close lookalikes. I call this "Everybody off the bridge". Ever notice in Star Trek, whenever anything interesting happens, everybody from the bridge leaves to go there?
