The Lore of Fallout

Having lived through the 50s and actually seeing the resistance to rock & roll by some of the older generation, I can actually see R&R being banned and becoming an underground movement. With the artists being imprisoned and R&R 'reeducation' camps. A hidden vault with a secret stash of 'forbidden' music would not be out of line.

When Elvis' first movie, Jailhouse Rock finally played in our small town in 1958, My grandmother had a fit. My grandfather didn't see much wrong and joked with my mother about Rock not being all that different from the dances she was doing in high school. He equated the 'new' music more with the dancing than the tunes. :P

As for racism, as an Army brat I saw quite a variation in that from the deep south to California to Germany and Okinawa. In the south (mid 50s, & mid 60s) we still had separate schools, toilets and water fountains for 'colored' and 'white'. California we went to the same schools, but not always the same classes. While Okinawa (late 50s early 60s) the few black students were just other students. The only blacks I remember from Germany (early 50s) was a good friend of my fathers who often slept on our couch when he had been out drinking. And another, my age, who was a member of my cub scout group. So, take your pick of the level of racism you want.

Thanks for the real world insight on that time period! Definitely helps!

Well with Nevada leaning more towards California I imagine the racism towards blacks wasn't as bad to begin with.

Seems immigration from Mexico would still be allowed considering the importance to American business the country provided, of course that ultimately lead to Mexico's destruction as well :/ I might actually use some parts of Mexico in my story though, probably legion territory given it's proximity to Arizona

Meh, so many gaps to fill. Most of it really isn't necessary but I'm such a background story junkie regardless of whether it's mentioned in the actual story.

BTW I actually use Jail house rock with the NVradio extended mod.. Guess the King managed to find the Elvis tapes he mentioned LOL

Here's something else you might be able to use. There were border checkpoints on all of the roads between Nevada and California where they searched your car. Not for drugs, but for fruits and vegetables. It was illegal to bring any produce of any kind into California from anywhere else.

The border between California and Mexico was mostly open. I can remember being in Calixico (a small border town on the Cali side) and driving across the border past an unmanned border post to go to an A&W root beer stand in Mexicali (on the Mexican side) - the customs man had gone to lunch and left the border wide open. But there was no fence, and the street was the border there, so locals just went back and forth whenever they pleased. It was easier to get into Mexico than California.

For the Pain Inspired black music, I could see you using old Black Pride Raggae and Ska.

In the might make mod of mine, I have it so that Rockabilly/Doo Wop eventually became excepted as more harsh types of rock came out.

Thanks for the suggestion, and rather good idea with the Rockabilly bit.

lol.. death metal. I can see raiders getting a kick out of that if they ever got their hands on it.

Or, to add a little irony, have the raiders prefer classical. Maybe something on the order of Wagner's Ring Cycle. It's an appropriately dark and morbid opera that lasts about 15 hours.

I'm thinking older Metal Bands. Like Sabbath, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Judas Priest. Some New wave of British Heavy Metal bands like: Iron Maiden, Saxon, Def Leppard, Motorhead (was thinking of modeling the Khan DJ after Lemmy.). And Some Glam Metal: Twisted Sister, Motley Crue ect. I think they embody the Biker Influence of the Khans much better.
