Sierra Madre Helmets -- *transparent* faceplate

The "Sierra Madre Helmet," and the "Sierra Madre Helmet, Reinforced," are excellent helmets: you're clearly supposed to wear them in Dead Money, and give them to your companions too. And they're useful beyond as well. But the black, opaque faceplate makes you look like a stormtrooper, and gets old very quickly.

Even worse, the fact that one of your companions, Christine, can only communicate through gestures and facial expressions, means that, when you converse with her, the game will constantly be telling you about all the facial expressions that she is making, despite the fact that YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY SEE THIS if she is wearing this helmet, which she probably is.

So, I was wondering, oh Gods of Mod, if it was possible to make these two helmets' faceplates transparent, as with the various eyeglasses in the game. Or, failing that, to remove the faceplate altogether. I don't think that I would be the only one happy about having this option.

Thanks in advance.

The problem is that the opaque faceplate adds to the hologram's uncanny factor.

Good point. I suppose what would be best would be to leave the default helmets as they are, but to add a workbench modification where you could use a bit of Abraxo cleaner and some turpentine (or whatever) to scrub the opaque finish off of the faceplate, creating a new item with a transparent faceplate.

Or, more simply, a workbench modification to remove the faceplate. Maybe that would give a bonus of +1 to perception but a -1 penalty to damage threshold (for example). This would actually be a better solution with regards to Dean Domino, who is constantly smoking a cigarette THROUGH THE FACEPLATE, which is equally silly whether the faceplate is opaque or transparent.

Lore-wise the reflective coated visors make since...sort of. They would be highly effective in protecting against energy weapons...in theory (they don't put that bonus in game...and with the Sierra Madre systems stripping all energy weapon ammo from you because it is radioactive) but with only the Holograms using energy based attacks it is odd that anyone security or not gets them, considering the high level of paranoia evident from the journal entries found around the place; i.e. the hologram body-guards, the systems designed to strip all 'dangerous' materials from a visitor, the fact he only wants things from the vending machines introduced to the place other than what he thinks are carefully controlled shipments of building supplies. I never liked that they were completely opaque either, though the Cobra Commander look did give me a laugh. Making them tinted or clear like the Vault Security Helmets would be great, or removing the visor entirely (doing that at a workbench or some other way would be far more lore friendly as all security forces seem to be equipped with the riot gear style visored helmets).
