Vagrant0
I started a new forum and could use help with starting of. If anyone can offer help http://dunmermage.proboards67.com/index.cgi Thats the link.Just PM me(Ben Mueller)Why? Assuming you aren't just using the board to fish for usernames, passwords, and e-mails, or just looking for abusing admin rights... There's no reason for the forum. If you were leading or working a large mod project involving several people that would be one thing, but even then, you would only need your team members to use the forum. What you have is basically another place people have to sign up with, to discuss things they can already discuss elsewhere, that doesn't have the risks involved with using one of those free forums (filled with ads, easy to hack, spam, and just suck). I don't mean to offend, but what was your purpose for doing this?
ItWotBeSoonBeforeLong
The forum is to help new elder scrolls players and where they can advertise mods,or ask for help with mods. They can share charecter ideas, and ideas for mods.Any Other q's?Its my duty as a administrator to get used to answering question ;) --I WILL ASSURE THERE ARE NO HACKERS--TRUST ME-- Wouldnt you ask the need for all unnoficial forums???And everyone trusted this forum???I doubt it.I dont trust pretty much any forum. Vagrant0
The forum is to help new elder scrolls players and where they can advertise mods,or ask for help with mods. They can share charecter ideas, and ideas for mods.Any Other q's?Its my duty as a administrator to get used to answering question ;)Doesn't that already get done here? And since gamingsource has alot more members, wouldn't it be more useful to post on gamingsource? --I WILL ASSURE THERE ARE NO HACKERS--TRUST ME--So then you're manually recoding the forums to prevent any of the usual exploits? IP bans don't mean anything (if proboards even allow you to IP ban). The only way this is true is if there isn't anything there that would be of interest to anyone. Wouldnt you ask the need for all unnoficial forums???And everyone trusted this forum???I doubt it.I dont trust pretty much any forum.Unofficial forums are needed since companies often have their head up their ass, remove topics they don't agree with, and are often filled with way too many stupid people who don't know a damn thing, answer as if they did, and refuse to listen to any and all logic. Additionally, Official forums often lack support for other languages, or for larger projects to get organized. However, it is only those forums who are led by capable people, and are able to provide something which isn't available elsewhere that have membership, and even then they have to do alot to maintain that membership. Gamingsource has a large community centered around general modding, Canadian Ice has a smaller community centered mostly around creating new meshes, Silgrad is centered around a massive mod and similar projects. I'm not trying to insult you, or discourage your attempts at making your own forums, but if people don't see any good reason for signing up, they won't. Since you aren't offering them anything that they can't do anywhere else, they won't. I should know, I've run my own forum before, and seen many others go through the same situation. People need something specific to keep them around, if they can do that thing somewhere else, where there are more people, they will usually do it there. I post here because I never liked the environemt of the official forums, and found the gamingsource to have enough people to both answer questions I ask, and ask questions I can answer, having a place to upload and download mods was also a major component of this. What I am really asking is what makes your forum worth registering with? If you're just looking for a place you can answer questions, couldn't you just do that here, where more people will see the answer, and where the answer could be searched later helping out people who aren't even registered yet? Malchik
Hi Ben, I'm afraid that I think Varant0 has the truth of the matter. The people who frequent THIS forum don't need another one on the lines you suggest. That's not to say there may not be scope for another elder scrolls forum but there are already a lot of them so you'd need to have a specific angle of your own. If you can see a niche that other sites don't cover, then make it clear what the niche is. Otherwise you'd be better seeking members in other ways. Often a group of friends start up a forum for themselves and it may (or may not) develop from that. The elder scrolls side of it might only be a small part at first. In other words, make your forum in some way 'special' and not just what appears to be a clone of this one and you may start to get support.
