Zyxpsilon
As i am at a turning point to start taking final decisions about developping my own ideas, concepts, mods, etc. Nexus threads are quite informative and everyone still can get their fair share of help when & how they prefer. But seriously, it's a chaotic mess to finally dig (by luck, most of the time) for whatever we might seek direct and obvious answers given by trusty sources. Namely Amineri, FxsRMcFall and so on. I can't really deal with such a vast amount of details to determine if some hidden facts should fit the coincidental visits to some vague posts. To me... there's ONLY one way to obtain something in a rational manner; focus whomever attentions on miscellaneous subjects in ONE simple thread like this one. Sooooooooo -- i've got projects. And specific questions. But where to begin? Extremely easy... as follow, please. TO FxsRMcFall:1) http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3819710-actively-supporting-the-modding-community/?p=34748060 TO Amineri;2) Clear opinions or hints about the above too? TO everyone else;3) ... And yes, this thing has to be personal in terms of cohesive & centralized progress i could ever wish to make along the road to reach success. davidlallen
The forums I have worked on are not really setup that way. Normally a person posts a question in a new thread, and anybody who knows the answer should jump in. If you somehow privately post a question to person X, and X is busy (say, due to a day job developing games ...), you may not get an answer. But, four other people you weren't thinking of, may in fact know the answer or help to find out. You have to trust that the people who know the most will read all the threads, or at least the ones by people who they know to ask good questions. I think there are two levels of information: unorganized, and organized. Unorganized is all these threads I mention. Organized is guides, and a guide to the guides. The key point is that when something gets well understood, then somebody writes a guide, and we make sure everybody else can find the guide. So, now we have a sticky post where I will do that. Somebody else suggested a wiki, and if somebody wants to curate a wiki that would be even better.
Zyxpsilon
I've got nothing against any forms of HELP either by your system or in other ways! It's just that for proper tracking reasons that i can easily refer to later, i prefer starting such a new thread for personal use only. If i ever get lucky enough ... anyone that KNOWS the facts and is willing to just provide the correct answers to my questions -- should certainly give it all right here. I command your initiative wholeheartedly, david. We're all better served by as much solid "Modding" details as we can get. In the meantime.. i'd still want some answers to #1 & #2 above. Zyxpsilon
Gotta get these off my chest right now -- just in case these very specific issues are what's causing my compiler process to fail consistantly. Q3) Must all images.. textures.. pictures we'd like to insert or use as replacements for default resources -- be in properly configured (32b-alpha in some cases) TGA format, only?? Q4) Should Src\XComGame\Classes\--1927 UC template files ... always remain in the "installed" structure for (or during) valid compiling of both the Solution & Build steps. And if so -- then simply deleting the extra junkish overload (18.5 Mbs) from the actual Steam-Upload version only is reasonably okay?!? Q5) Is the newest giga ***_ModShaderCache.upk (which currently shows up at nearly 86Mbs every time i try to build anything) a ModBuddy flaw or what? As of this moment in my modding pseudo-carreer, without facts and truth about Q3+Q4+Q5... i will NOT pursue any further development on my crazy stuff; GeoscApps, qUIck (to be created as multiple Modular parts) or LAByrinth. Please.
Zyxpsilon
Bump for a definitive answer to #Q5... cuz, i've just uploaded my first Mod to Steam -- and it's 86Mbs bigger than it really needs to. It takes precious time away from both ends of the community equation. :pinch:
