A more exciting and rewarding experience

Why don't you try it out yourself? You want more challenge, hardcore mode forces you to manage things such as dehydration, hunger and sleep deprivation as well as adding weight to objects like ammo and chems. Wouldn't you agree that it increases the challenge and makes you pay more attention to what you choose to carry around in the wastes?

As far as I know, NPC loot remains unchanged. Which makes sense, there's no reason for low-level enemies to drop top-tier loot.

"Better stuff" is relative. The game gives you enough stuff to finish the game and be able to kill the creatures that come next. I mean, near the end of the game you get an antitank rifle. I'm not sure what else you expect from it, to be honest.

But what good does me getting this weapon mean? Once I complete the game. And get the weapon. Game is over. Correct? I can't keep playing. Or can I?

I said near the end, not after the end. But basically the game makes sure you can get stuff that can kill what comes next. I'm not sure how one would make that stuff more awesome without reducing the challenge for what comes next. Seems to me like it's a case of needing to decide whether you want one or the other.

I'm starting to think that RPG is the wrong genre for you.

It's just that I'm not really into stories anymore. Or chit chatting. Blah blah blah. I'm more of..."send me on a mission and reward me greatly for my efforts". That's what I'm all about. :-)

Demons souls did that. Hell! Even World of Warcraft did that. Fallout 3 was like that as well. Seems like New Vegas is more about blah blah blah. Boring talking and stories. I don't care for them. Know what I mean?

Perhaps I just need to download mods that amp the game up? Make it more fast paced? More exciting and challenging? More difficult yet rewarding? Question is...which mods?

Also, how should I configure my character? Where should I put my points into? etc etc?

If you need to ask that then you'd be better off with some generic FPS if you just want to shoot stuff than CRPG...

FONV, as are all of the games we support here, is an RPG - Role playing game. In an RPG, the story is the game. How you play the part of your player character makes the story different for different people. The interaction with NPCs in trade, and to get info is a major part of the game.

What I think you are looking for is a very basic FPS - First person shooter - where the entire plot is to shoot anything and everything. There is no interaction with NPCs (beyond killing them). The original Doom was such a game. There were no friendlies to worry about, no plot to work through, just kill or be killed. When you had killed everything on the level, you moved up. And as you moved up, better weapons and more powerful enemies were unlocked.

I am sure there are more up to date games of this type available and probably some of our members can recommend something you may like better than our RPG type game. 8)
