Pawper
Er, title got cut off. :P It's supposed to be 'sextastic' OK, I have been poking around teh internets, and I decided I'm going to try and create this myself! I have no modding experience, so wish me luck. However, I found a tutorial that basically describes the process to doing something like this, so I shouldn't have any problems so long as I can figure out the instructions correctly. The only thing I see at this point that I'm not sure I'll be able to do, is moving down the skirt part and possibly resizing it to fit the waist better. I'll see if I can do it when I'm playing around with the program(s). I'm going to try to create it as a new item. I'm thinking about doing something similar with the glass armor, etc. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I'm thinking about what to call the collection. I'll probably just attach a prefix word, so it would be "_____ Steel Cuirass" or whatever. Some ideas for words popping up in my head are 'Adonis', 'Exposed', 'Open', 'Swift', etc. Tell me what you think. :) As for the stats, it will probably have less weight, less defense, but be classified as heavy armor. I'm considering adding speed and agility boosts, to make it worth it over regular armor. I would like the armor to be balanced for the role I want it to feel. Here's the original idea. I cut out all the request stuff since I'm making it myself.Anyway, here's my first idea: An edit of the Cuirass of Resilience (I believe it's actually based on the Steel Cuirass, but I'm not suer). I'm still a pretty low-level character, so I'm sure there's better equipment, but this armor looks really cool, especially with my craptacular Photoshop editing skills. The item ID that I got off of the UESPWiki is 00049520. Here's my edits. This is what the armor should look kinda like when it's done, I guess. Or at least, what I had in mind.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/SykoSilver/ScreenShot7.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/SykoSilver/ScreenShot9.jpg Some notes: Basically, it's the 'skirt' part, with the arm armor, along with a small piece of the armor that covers the chest and goes around the back of the neck. The big piece of armor that covers the back, part of the chest, and abs is what I want removed. I also moved the skirt part down some, so that the navel shows and it fits on the waist a bit better, though it still doesn't fit quite right. ^^;; If it's possible to make the skirt part a separate item, that would be awesome, but only if it's not in the pants slot (I like to equip Slof's boners as well-- no comments on that, please, it's just a preference). BTW, I'm using the Kehno'Rou race by Shadow_Dragyn (http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=9435) though I don't think it makes a difference. For the stats: It should of course be lighter than the regular armor, and have less defense naturally. For the immersive aspect, I have a speedy fist-fighter who uses heavy armor, and something that that would be optimal anyway. If I get another piece of armor that I think would make a good edit, I will post it as well.
Pawper
OK everyone, already encountered a problem. For reference, I'm using this tutorial:http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=394408 I am combining the steel cuirass with Robert's male fullbody (bulky). Please look at my Photoshop edits for what I have in mind, as far as transparency goes. Although I didn't show it in the examples, I would like to remove the blue sleeves in the armor, if you can see them there. The edge between the sleeves and the torso just looks to horrible to keep them. Ok, so here's the problem: The arms for the bulky mesh are too large for the armor. The skin pops out of the armor, basically. There are two fixes: 1) Resize the armor, requires know-how and working program (preferred) 2) Resize the arms, requires know-how and working program Seeing as how I don't have know-how and Blender crashes when I load .nif files, I came up with a third fix: 3) Create a copy of the skin texture to use for the bulky mesh and make the arms transparent, then import the mesh of the slender arms with the normal texture This SHOULD work. The texture of the blue sleeves is transparent, so the arms show. But here's the problem: Whenever I activate the alpha in NifSkope for the block that the blue sleeves are in, other parts of armor in that block go crazy and look like a bear ate them for lunch. I checked the texture and the alpha doesn't mess with the torn-up parts, just the parts of the abdomin, back, and blue sleeves.. I have no idea what's wrong. Images of the problem:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/SykoSilver/arm_messup.jpgThe texture is right. (Image shows black where the alpha is black, and gridlines, for your convenience)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/SykoSilver/texture.jpg A note: Whenever I paste the branch for the armor mesh into a new .nif file, I get this error message:"infinite recursive link construct detected 90 -> 61"Don't know if it has to anything to do with my problem or not. Another problem that only exists because of a lack of know-how:I would like to move the skirt part down like in the example, so that the navel fully shows with about an inch of space between it and the top of the belt. As-is, it doesn't look natural with the large gap around the inside of the armor, around the waist. I'm pretty sure this requires some know-how and a working program like Blender. I have neither. If someone wants to help with this part after the other problem is taken care of, that would be awesome. Also, I will do a similar glass armor edit after I work out the kinks in this one. I want to get the execution down right before I do any more.
Pawper
Alright, so I made a version with the sleeves as crappy as they look, but I can't get it in the game. D: If anyone has a good tutorial on how to do this, a link would be fantastic. I tried following another tutorial I found, using the Construction Kit, and then adding the item to my inventory using the Form ID, but it still says something about a script. I'm sure it's not that complicated, so an explanation would be spiffy.

Pawper
I managed to add the item to the game using that tutorial. Buuuut, there was a problem (of course). The top does not show... my torso and arms are invisible. D: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/SykoSilver/ScreenShot10.jpg If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be awesome if you could share. Thanks for reading! Pawper
Still no idea how to fix this. It might have something to do with some children thinger in Nifskope, but I have no idea. I may try that later. In the meantime, I posted on Bethesda's General TES Construction Kit -- Oblivion forum asking for help. Hopefully this will help solve the problems sooner. http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=722047
PanzerOfGod
One reason for the invisibility could be that you don't have a texture on the mesh?
Pawper
One reason for the invisibility could be that you don't have a texture on the mesh?Pretty sure I do. It shows fine in NifSkope. I'd look at it in the CS but I don't know how. Wouldn't it show as purple if there was no texture? I think I read that somewhere. It's not showing as purple, it's just invisible, like in the image in the last link.

Also, invisibility can mean no texture, but maybe it can also mean no mesh, I'm not sure on that.

I don't know how to preview the item in the Render window though so I can't see what it looks like in the CS. I can get the item in the game and equip it, but it makes my upperbody invisible and doesn't show the item.
