frr
I have an issue with Oblivion crashing when I leave shops. It dosent happen all the time, but it seems more prone to happening if I buy/sell items at the shop. It results in a hard crash. When I go to exit, the screen goes black and part of a sound just loops over and over again, and the only way I can recover is by killing the power to my comp. I installed a ton of mods, so just disabling them one at a time will take a really long time, especially since the crash dosent happen every time. What would be the best way to troubleshoot this? At this point I would assume it is not related to an item mod as it happened at different shops. Im thinking perhaps one of the mods that affects the merchantile leveling, or the max gold available in the shops. I dunno. Im patched up to the latest official patch, and I am near certain it is not a hardware issue. Any thoughts or ideas?
bben46
Not much info to go on. but maybe this will help. I can't tell you directly which mod may be causing your problem, but I can give you a procedure to help you find it.First if you are not using Obilvion Mod Manager (OBMM) get it and use it. I will make finding the problem much easier.Second. in the OBMM screen, try disabling mods in groups. if you have 20 mods, disable 5. I usually start at the bottom of the list as some mods over write parts of others. If this does not fix the problem, disable 5 more. When you find the group that is causing your problem re enable all other groups and try it again to be sure it is one of the mods in the disabled group. then enable the mods in that group one at a time (or if you have as many as 10 on the group in smaller groups to narrow it down) Yes it takes time. but a methodical approach will usually get results faster than disabling random mods. Sometimes I think I spend more time troubleshooting than playing. Hope this helps and good luck. PM me if you have questions. post if it works. Guest
Hello, I am having the same exact problem with Oblivion. The weird thing is that on an older PC that I just got rid of, I never had any issues. That system was an Athlon dual core 4200. The video card was nvidia 7800GT. My new system is a dual core athlon 5200 with the same exact video card, yet after playing for about 10 minutes, when I go into or out of a door, the game will go black (sometimes with looping sound, sometimes not) and force me to shut down. It completely locks up the system. I seriously doubt the issue is related to the video card since I never had problems with it on a different machine (it's the very same card; I swapped it out). And yes, my video and audio drivers are completely updated. I've also tried disabling anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc. It is really frustrating. I submitted this to bethesda softworks, telling them the exact same thing above, and they write me back with a canned email saying to upgrade my video drivers (even though I told them they were already updated). I am running no mods, just the basic game right now.
randomity
I had the same problem myself. Only it was for every building. I turned the oblivion.esm master file back on and it worked for a day. So yeah, it's definately NOT the master file
Katterfly
Yes I've had this same crashing problem for some time now, it seems to persist more often if I minimize the game at all. Even without doing that though it still happens, and its becoming very annoying =\
JDFan
IS this happening since you updated to the new patch ?? If so try this : Go into the oblivion.ini file and change this line iShadowMapResolution= (to =1024) This was the old default but was changed in the latest patch to a default of =256 which causes many Nvidia cards to crash at times (not sure exactly why but changing it back seems to stop the CTD's when exiting buildings)
