Looking for some mods

Hi, first of all can I say that I apologise if this is the wrong part of the forum to be posting this in (I don't think it is) and that I love the forum's layout (has it been built specifically for this site?). I also apologise if these sort of "help me find x mod" threads aren't allowed, I didn't see any mention of this being forbidden in the rules.

Ok, I played and completed Fallout: New Vegas about 5 months ago and with the release of Honest Hearts, I feel that now is a good time to get back into it, so I'm looking for some mods. Can you recommend me some?

What I'm looking for;

  • Mods that add new weapons and modifications (although I'd prefer 1 mod that added 50 weapons to 50 mods that add 1 weapon)
  • Mods that add more perks and traits,
  • Mods that add weather effects / more bloom / graphical improvement etc,
  • Mods that generally make the game more immersive,
  • Important: All of the mods have to be compatible with Honest Hearts / Dead Money.

I'm not looking for mods that add new companions or areas. While I am 18 I'm not really looking specifically for adult mods either. I'm using the UK version of the game, not the 1C / eastern europe version (not sure if that'll make a difference but I thought I'd mention it). Also, does installing mods disable steam achievements?

Thanks!

I have a few mods that create new weps:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41819

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41848

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41849

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41832

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41838

Also, for weather, I HIGHLY recommend this:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35998

For perks, here's a mod that adds some from FO3 that we're removed in FNV:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37211

These should be compatible with the expansions, I don't know about the weather mod or the F03 perks mod, but I know for sure all the wep mods I listed will work.

Enjoy.

Well, tastes being subjective and immersion ideas being different from person to person, it's hard to make a recommendation for someone else.

I mean, speaking of uniforms and weapons, I love running around in a Star Trek captain uniform and with an EE-3 blaster carbine from Star Wars. In fact, I find it awesome. Or going melee with a gold-embossed fantasy sword or axe, or an authentic landesknecht greatsword or halberd. Or putting on the Darth Vader outfit and pulling out me trusty ol' red lightsaber, for some slicing and dicing like in a time long ago and a galaxy far away ;) I'm thinking of making a magical staff of fireballs next, but I just can't come up with a concept that just screams MAGIC. But other people would find all those immersion-breaking.

And then, some people find it more immersive for the Legion to have authentic Roman gladii and javelins, some actually like the improvised post-apocalyptic"machetes" they already have, and some want them to use laser miniguns. Some people want everything rusty and dinged, some of us find it more realistic if after two centuries people finally started producing new and shiny stuff, you know? Some people like short anime girls, some of us are rather neutral about it, and some actually don't like it at all.

I'm afraid nobody can tell exactly what you'd like. You're better off wading through the download section like Hercules through the Augean stables, and picking the stuff you actually like.

Well, actually that metaphor was offensive. I just mean there's lots of really good stuff in there, but it's not necessarily the stuff YOU would want in your game. But there's someone else out there for whom it's awesome.

[*]Mods that add new weapons and modifications (although I'd prefer 1 mod that added 50 weapons to 50 mods that add 1 weapon)

I like WME - Weapon Mod Expansion, it adds more weapon mods and allows you to mod unique weapons. There's really no need for more weapons, besides you can already get some new stuff from the DLCs.

[*]Mods that add more perks and traits,

FO3 Perks is the only one I can recommend. Again, there's no need for more perks, in my opinion it's better to have perks that really make a difference and not just add more skill points, they should have more downsides too.

[*]Mods that generally make the game more immersive,

I highly recommend Xtra Special New Vegas and Xtra Special Skill Training, your skills increase by doing things and tagged skills are increased 2 points at the time on level up. Also skills can go over 100 and still give you a bonus (not that great though).

Bottle That Water is a must, you can bottle water from any water source.

Vurts Wasteland Flora Overhaul adds better looking flora.

Real-Time Entry Skills if you´re tired with the lock picking/hacking mini games, also allows you to pick a lock with skill less than normally needed i.e. in vanilla game if the lock needs 50 skill you can´t pick it if your skill is 49, the mod allows you to try to pick it, but the attempt may fail.

Community Bugfix Compilation Patch, fixes a lot of things that haven´t been included in the official patches, actually it fixes many more!

Fellout NV makes the nights a lot darker.

Less Dismemberment and Limb Explosions, not every head and limb has to explode...

Interior Lighting Overhaul - Realistic Interiors more realistic interior lighting.

Also, does installing mods disable steam achievements?

Nope.

<3 this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! (I've given you some "kudos").

I get what you mean, perhaps I should be more specific. I'm not looking for anything that doesn't fit the fallout style (so nobody dressed as spock :P).
