Does anyone know how to make laser weapons that use fusion cores?

I have this really cool idea for a laser sniper rifle that uses fusion cores as ammo just like the gatling-laser, problem is have no experience in modding what so ever but I'd really love to see something like this in the game. So I'm pretty much looking for someone who could make this thing happen

Though I can't mod what so ever I do have some experience doing concept art -http://martiniman1.deviantart.com/- and I have been trying some stuff following Fallout's art-style (which I utterly adore).

Maybe I could do some concept art for such a weapon as most of what I have seen on the nexus are replica's of real weapons

I could probably try the idea out, although there might be issues with increasing the ammo consumption from 1/500 of the core's charge to something greater, as well as with general implementation depending on how transferable the Gatling Laser's functions are. It might also be easiest to execute based on the Laser Rifle animations with cells replaced by the core, so you might want to take this into account with the concept.

@Junnari -we'd have to make a lot of changes to the mechanics of the gatlinglaser to make it work well as a sniper rifle; like reload animations (the way I imagined it the fusion cores would go into the bottom like a normal magazine and there would have to be animated clamps to hold the core in place) and as you mentioned the ammo count/usage also has to be changed.

@lilkandeekid -I'll play around with some 3D modelling software for now, maybe try to use pieces from other fallout weapons.

If you're looking at using the vanilla fusion cores as ammo, you're kinda stuck with the ammo count as its referenced by the ammo itself and any changes would change it for gatling laser as well.

Even though I dont see why you would want to increase the ammo consumption, instead of firing rapidly it fires a stronger shot. Kinda how the receivers and weapons work in general for fallout 4 right?

And really, the ammo reference is the only thing you need similar to the gatling laser. Everything else could be adjusted to fit the new weapon.

Remember when building your 3D model, you really cant edit or add new animations, only use existing ones so it has to fit to it. Really the biggest thing with this is reloading, if the animation has them pulling something that isnt there it can be odd lol.

Does that apply to the animations of the weapon itself? Because that would limit my options quite a bit

I guess it could use the combat rifle animation, but the fusion cores are round and the magazines for the combat rifle are flat so you'd get some nasty clipping problems, maybe the reload for the cryolator will work better because those mag's are also round?

Yes, you can't really make neither new hand or weapon animations, or combine weapon animation to another hand animation in practical manner. The combat rifle animations might be usable, although the magazine of the weapon is way thinner than the cores, the grip in the animation is done based on way wider magazine (the thumb is inch or so away from the magazine), meaning that there might not be that much clipping that it would prevent using it. The cryolator might be better in the aspect that it uses fusion cells, however it has closer grip on it, meaning that the larger fusion core might clip pretty visibly. As a personal opinion the position of the magazine well/insertion point is located awkwardly low and away from the centerline of the weapon, which might restrict the design of the weapon.

I did some testing with the cores, some things that I noticed:

- The weapon spends equal portion of the fusion core's charge even if the magazine capacity is modified

- The weapon always reloads core with most charge

- The consumption is affected by the nuclear physicist perk and repair bobblehead, with both of them the 500 rounds from the gatling laser leave the core at 54% charge.

The effect from the bobblehead/perk might be used to increase the consumption, although I haven't yet managed to properly test that out.

One of my mods re does gatling laser ammo, changing the way ammo works in relation to mags is still kinda unknown, or atleast an unknown entry in FO4Edit (I think its ammo health?). Look at the bottom unknown in a AMMO's DNAM section and compare it a fusion core and you'll see what i mean. Fusion cores are the only one with an entry there, and zero'n it out made it act like normal ammo.

The perks and bobblehead increase the ammo with a modifier to ammo health, its what also gives fusion cores a longer life in power armor.

But ya, choosing the right animation is key. Watched this a few times and still think its going to be hard to find something that fits with the larger fusion core.
