Does anyone know how to make laser weapons that use fusion cores?

Thank you both so much for all the help, I really appreciate your enthusiasm.

 

I have been messing around with some basic designs and I found that the cryolator actually works better for me, the combat rifle is very slim which doesn't match the big/powerful look I'm trying to achieve but the cryolator allows for a very big fire mechanism with lost of glass fibre cables and radiators.

By comparing some screenshots I have also found that the fusion cores an fusion cells' diameters don't differ much, the fusion core also has an indentation close to the bottom so there is a bit of wiggle room there, as long as there is enough space to hide the rest of the core away I think it would be best using the cryolator animation.

Yeah they're definitely close enough in size that it should look pretty smooth with the cyrolators animation.

Glad to see this going, looking forward to seeing how it comes out.

here's a bit of a progress update,

 

I have done some very basic designs which you can find on my deviant art page, I also included the ones which I made before we concluded it would be best to use the cryolators reload animation. The second one from the top looks a bit silly, I started from the back because I wanted to do the stock a bit differently but that didn't really work out. Tell me what you think, keep in mind it's all about the basic shape for now.

 

as for some details; for the barrel I was thinking of something like the ones you see on the laser-rifle's from the game but a bit taller and slimmer; still using the crome/green/yellow colour scheme; maybe some braided glass fibre cables rigged to the exterior?

 

I'm very busy right now but next week I have a week off so I can spend more time working on the project.

I really like the bottom right one. Think you have the right idea with the color scheme and some kind of extra wiring or cables.

I updated my progress thingy on deviant art angain, not much has changed but I thought I'd let you know anyway.

 

I have an idea for how the weapon might work but I have no clue if it can be done: have the rifle fire a continuous laser beam that uses the fusion cores energy over time. there are a lot of reasons why I think it might not work, but since I don't know much about modding I might be totally wrong on that. hopefully I am because I think that would set it apart a lot more and make it feel very unique.
