Companion weapom problem

Hi, I have a problem with companion weapons.

 

I have Veronica that has two companion weapons - meel power fist, and range 10 mm pistol. Some time ago I gave her 10mm Tactical SMG (it's a mod addon, not vanilla 10 mm SMG) with ammo and she use it with no problem...till recently.

In heavy firefight when she is "killed" (drop dead for couple of moments) or sometimes badly injured she change her range weapon to her own 10 mm pistol and stubbonly refuse to use SMG (she has ammo, plus I tried to take SMG away from her and then re-equip her) it like normally she prefer SMG over her pistol, but then she change her mind and use 10mm pistol. The problem is that the pistol is her companion weapon so I can't take it away.

Even more funny is that with that pistol problem, the other weapons, like mod EM riflre works fine and she use it instead of pistol (however I don't know if it's temporary, coz I haven't had her killed or badly injured with EM Rifle).

 

Is there is any way, or mod that allow you to pick specific weapon for companion from her/your inventory?

 

Right now the only thing that supose to fix it is to fire Veronica from the team and then re-enlist her at 188th Trading Outpost, but it's obviously irritating.

 

 

Edit: I found better, but stil problematic solution.

1) make Veronica to equip weapon other than 10 mm pistol

2) save game

3) load game

4) unequip that weapon

5) equip 10 tac SMG

1. NPCs always seem to use the weapon with the highest DPS. Is there any chance that the SMG you gave her got damaged by enemy fire so that its DPS got reduced?

 

When fully repaired, the DPS of Veronica's 10mm Pistol is rated at 60DPS in NVGECK while the 10mm SMG is rated at 171DPS. That is fully repaired. It should be a no brainer for her to use the SMG.

 

2. Another quirk I've seen in FONV is that when you transfer an item to an NPC or shop, some items stack but don't show it. You can click an item that appears fully repaired and there could be another identical item underneath it in a lower state of repair that actually gets transferred and the one you thought you clicked stays with you. (Fortunately this works both ways so if the NPC gets the wrong item on the first click just transfer both copies over, then click once to get one copy back and the NPC should have the one you intended to give them.)

 

Any chance you had 2 10mm SMGs?

 

 

3. You could use NVGECK to remove Veronica's weapon and modify her quest script to not re-add it when its missing, but that does not get to the root of the problem, you'd like to know why she's behaving this way.

I think it's more like NPC AI bug rather than game mechanic problem, coz SMG isn't dammaged much (condition at 97%) so there is no way it's DPS lower than pistol. Another argument for AI bug is that equip/save/load/equip solution that clearly proove that SMG is in fine condition.

 

So far this bug appear in 100% case when Veronica is temporary dead (tested in 5-6 dead situation).

It sometimes apper when she is badly woulded (she talk about her limbs) but it was 1 or 2 cases of about couple dozen situations so this way is much harder to recreate.

Veronica is... a little AI challenged. I wish I understood her reasons for changing weapons. She'll also switch to power-fist to charge at some gun-wielding enemy from 100 ft away, instead of using a great energy weapon. And I mean when explicitly asked to use ranged attacks. Edited by Moraelin
