A little problem when uploading mods

Recommended Posts

Ahem.

I have been learning how to mod a bit (Planning on doing CM companions) and whenever i type the mod name in the "File name" menu thing, this pops up:

"can only contain letters, numbers, spaces, and hyphens"

The name i typed in: Example name

Hello! Cant you see i am only using "letters" and "spaces"?

This happens with ANYTHING i type in.

Is this something wrong with the site or something?

By the way, i tried uploading pics but apparently nexus doesnt like my "image extension"

The thing that gives me grief is that some boxes won't allow periods ("full stops" in British.) So your file version has to be something like Version 1_1.

Some boxes won't allow underscores but allow periods or full stops. So in those boxes the file version has to be 1.1. If you do it wrong, it won't upload, but it only tells you this after the sometimes lengthy process of uploading a file (and failing.)

I wish the format was consistent all the way through this site.

I don't know what to tell you about your file name problem. I upload files all the time that have names made of letters and spaces.

Images you upload will need to be .jpg files.

That image was a JPG file o_O

EVERYTHING seems to malfunction around me o_O

So, what do you mean by 1.1? Eh, new to modding.

One common naming convention is to have files numbered like Version 1.0, Version 1.1, Version 1.2 Etc. Alphas and pre-betas might have a low number like Version 0.75. Major revisions might jump to the next big number like Version 2.0. Every file version must have a different number even if the changes are small. So if a gamer says, "I have this terrible problem with your mod, I use version 1.1." Then you might be able to say, "That issue was fixed in version 1.2, you can download and install it to solve the problem." If all your files are named the same (for example: Version 1.0,) then you might be totally baffled why the gamer is having this problem that no longer exists in the file, because you would not know that he or she is using the outdated version.

But the software on TES Nexus is inconsistent from box to box, so some places will wreck your upload if you enter Version 1_1 in the name because that box won't accept underscores and some places will wreck your upload if you enter Version 1.1 in the name because that box won't accept periods (full stops.)

That is baffling that you can't upload anything, even .jpg files. Do you have some sort of security system on your computer or network that is preventing you from transmitting files?

Security system? Yeah, trend micro security pro. And also, not sure if this will help at all, but whenever im on tesnexus. The search bar is highlighted yellow because of f***ing google so i cant see what i wrote. Same thing with the mod upload thing. BUT i can highlight in order to see what i wrote. I am by no means an expert on this, but it does seem quite possible that you have security software that is limiting what you can do on the Internet. You may have to temporarily disable or even remove some of it.

I use Mozilla Firefox, and I know for a fact that TES Nexus does not work right with the No-Ad and No-Script plug-ins because the site seems to depend on scripts and ads. These two plug-ins are not primarily security plug-ins, but they do limit the way the user can Interact with the Internet. You may have a similar situation with different software on your computer.

ehh... i have to say, as an uploader of 2 mods I'd say uploading went as smooth as eggs. gogo nexus!

When did you upload them?

Probably won't help, but recently I have had some UI issues with the latest version of IE and the Nexus. The combo was causing what I wrote not to be visible in some fields. I could highlight to see what I wrote, but I found that unacceptable. The workaround was to switch to the white skin in the dropdown at the bottom of the page on the left. I think the white skin has not been updated in awhile perhaps, and lacks whatever is causing that issue for myself and at least one other person. I thought it was just me until another member reported it.
