Issues with Audio and Realtek

Recommended Posts

Hello Nexus Users

I recently stumbled on this website and quickly made an account because this seemed like one of the more helpful sites for PC gamers.

Simply put, Fallout 3 immediately lags on the menu upon startup, and refuses to play the audio on the menu. Once I started up the game, everything was fine until the first true loading zone (the door after Gomez and the robot during your escape). At that particular point, the game experiences the same lag that it did on the main menu. I should note that this lag is not a simple 10 fps drop, the game significantly decreases in performance to the point where I cannot play.

What I have found is that when I go into the fallout.ini and set "bEnableAudio" from "1" to "0", the game performs amazingly with no lag. The only disadvantage is the obvious fact that there is no sound. I would be able to manage this if there wasn't the side effect of removing all written dialog as well.

I have done many of the common suggestions found on the internet, like adding Fallout 3 to ffdshow's list, lowering all quality settings and updating my Directx (also downgrading it as well). None of these solutions have availed, and I am looking for a possible Realtek driver that could possibly solve this issue. I know that the problem lies on the audio and I would appreciate any and all suggestions to fix this problem. Even if your solution involves eliminating audio, I would rather deal with that than have a laggy game or one without dialog options.

Here are my system specs

Intel Core i5 Processor

760 @ 2.80 GHz

4.00 GB RAM

64 Bit Operating System

NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 Graphics Card

Realtek Audio

Thank you in advance for any responses to this post. I hope I can help this community as well in the near future.
