Akrid
 nearly everyone in morrowind is a sign post, they do stuff but that just makes them animated sign post, I realize the engine and most people's computer's could never handle a game that big where everyone talks with sound instead of word's. But considering most people have nothing to really say, maybe morrowind could have only given long speech files to important NPC's. Or made the word box's Zelda 64 style. Maybe one day, there will be a mod.
Faust870
I remember the first time i played morrowind, and the guy that starts you off...you know the dude that askes for your sign, class...etc... He was talking...and im like! sweet...so for everyone i talk to all I have to do is sit back and listen... WRONG... once I got out into Seyda Neen, I had to read...Aww snap! But look at it this way, for all of those who play this game, that can't spell or read good... Just keep playing this game, vocabulary skills will soar :P...your teachers will notice the difference, and tell you to keep doing what you've been doing..which means, your parents can't object to you playing morrowind! lol
Akrid
I had the same response as did many I'm sure. Morrowind could really use backround conversitions, they make a game feel much more immersing.
Ancalagon
The other characters do speak to eachother, I think. But it's like what they say to you when you approach them. One liners of course. The NPCs only talk to you audiably if it has something major to do with the plot. For instance, Dagoth Ur, that crazy chick who you have to help slay a Daedra she was hunting, and I think that's almost it. But it would be nice to hear them talk to eachother and to you. <_<
Akrid
Gothic uses a good way of making backround conv's (now conv == conversation) and Zelda 64 did this too, it could be modded easily.
diakonos
I'm told that Knights of the Old Republic for PC also has a lot of audible dialog -- and a 3 gig install.

Xiris
I actually like the way the NPC's talk to the PC in Diablo2. All the main quest dialoge is displayed in a scrolling box with voice accompanyment. I guess it is just reading out loud for the actor/actress who plays the character. Maybe from a modding stand point you could record some sound files and script them to play as part of the quest dialogue. I guess you are talking lots of different files for the different parts of the main quest in morrowind. Maybe someone who knows about modding would explain how difficult it would be! Malchik
I have come across games where the dialogue is all spoken but they are not RPG's. I am thinking of Simon the Sorcerer 3, and the second Discworld game (forget the name). There are, of course, far fewer NPC's in those games. Would you really want to hear the same dialogue from 500 dark elves all in the same voice? And as the actors get paid you couldn't have too many of them! Another difficulty with RPG's is the variations you can give to the character you start out with. It means the amount of dialogue would be huge. Also it would be hard to guess how to pronounce your character's name. Mine, Kyrykki, would certainly floor the system! There is a fair amount of spoken word in Morrowind, and that is refreshing. If it was a choice of one or the other, I would prefer more varied character dialogue than more spoken dialogue. That is one of the most common criticisms of the game as I understand it .
