Any way to de-activate it;

XCom 2 is here. Get out into the field and take back our planet. Good Luck, Commander.

... Kay -- i've read it more than once. Gooooo away -- My2K spam Linker-box (that just leads to a borked site in My FireFox browser)... too!

simulated function  CreateTicker()
{
	TickerBG = Spawn(class'UIPanel', self).InitPanel('BGBoxSimpleBG', class'UIUtilities_Controls'.const.MC_X2BackgroundSimple);
	TickerBG.AnchorBottomLeft().SetY(-35);
	TickerBG.SetSize(Movie.m_v2ScaledFullscreenDimension.X, TickerHeight);
	TickerBG.SetAlpha(80);
	TickerBG.DisableNavigation();
	TickerBG.Hide();
	TickerBG.bAnimateOnInit = false;

	TickerText = Spawn(class'UIScrollingText', self).InitScrollingText();
	TickerText.AnchorBottomLeft().SetY(-TickerHeight + 10);
	TickerText.SetWidth(Movie.m_v2ScaledFullscreenDimension.X);
	TickerText.Hide();
	TickerText.bAnimateOnInit = false;

	// Call this to update, or blank string to hide the ticker:
	// UIShell(ShellPres.Screenstack.GetScreen(class'UIShell')).SetTicker("%ATTENTIONICON New ticker text.");
	// Use %ATTENTIONICON to inject the cool HTML icon.
	if(!`FXSLIVE.GetMOTD("MainMenu", GetLanguage()))
	{
		SetTicker("");
	}
}

From UIShell

So ... shouldn't be too hard.

I would probably do it ... but honestly, I never even saw the ticker till I read this thread, and its so easy to ignore.

Thanks for the indirect "solution" which has to be created from a mod... but, i somehow can't remember exactly where online i had read.. of another simple INI edit that could fix that stuff too.

Message of the day :) Or week or month. I get it too.

Tried to log in to 2K, but it requires different account, not the forum one.

The My2K is another wicked trick by "Marketing Department", AFAIC.

I've logged (by creating a new account as requested) into it out of curiosity only to realize soon after i've been hooked like a big fish. Their auto-link to an external site is badly formatted and shows up really screwed in my Firefox browser (suppose they're still stuck with MS-eX).

This whole ticker message principle is completely absurd... companies are always complaining about web-junk and spam spreads and yet, they're the very first to try exploiting the very same tricks on their customers. Bad idea, i don't like being taken hostage by a product i duly paid a good chunk of my precious living money.

I went back into my www_history to dig for the initial place i saw a workaround hint for it... but still no luck.

2K forums -- waste of time, so far.

Sooooooo.... it's either with Firaxis staff proper response straight overhere or Amineri, wGhost81 or anyone else which KNOWS the exact final solution.

It's just ruining my enjoyment for this game for more than a week now. It has to stop.

MOTD and My2K are easy to ignore. Would be better if there were more messages + game tips :)

So there are few options I can think of:

  • Ignore it and live with it.
  • Mod it, if possible, though it is inconvenient in relation to saved games.
  • Hack it.
  • Let devs know, that would be nice to have an option to turn these features off.
  • Block XCOM 2 outbound network traffic with Windows firewall. This removes MOTD, but My2K complaint about being offline must be closed (makes it harder to ignore).

Seems like amazonaws.com services are used by XCOM 2.

I doubt anyone knows the final solution atm. IMO the best would be, if devs look into the matter and give us the option to turn it off, but no idea, what is 2K going to say.

Alrighty then.. i'll take your word for it my friend. If it is soooo complex to remove, i'll just have to hope 2K/Firaxis have read my post(s) about this stuff and may offer us the option to toggle it ON/OFF in the very near future.

While i still can remember and since you've dug deep into the 3D modeling and materials in the past, i guess you might know about those tricky XC2 Powered-Armor effects.

Each of these have some bright cyan "Tron Beam stripes". I don't think there is a specific pallette for this FX... but i'd like to be able to either apply custom colors to them or somehow directly tie their material layer process with any other pallettes (secondary armors, tattoos, etc) if possible.

Any ideas on this subject?

I feel quite happy right now, as some say old habits never die. It is complex, when doing it the new way.

Until we get an official answer, I've "hacked" it. Though I'd rather address one telemarketing guy's credit card, because he practices telemarketing on me every single day. COTD, call of the day.

You can use the latest PatcherGUI and set the first path to XCOM 2, for example S:\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCOM 2.

DESCRIPTION=Negates MOTD and moves My2K button off the screen. This mod for XCOM 2 won't invalidate saved games.

UPK_FILE=XComGame.upk

// Message of the day
OBJECT=UIShell.OnReceivedMOTD:KEEP
REL_OFFSET=0x30
MODDED_HEX=06

// My2K button
OBJECT=UIFinalShell.OnInit:KEEP
[BEFORE_HEX]
1E 00 00 48 C3 1E 00 00 F0 C2
[AFTER_HEX]
1E 00 00 48 43 1E 00 00 48 43

// EOF

You can access My2K button by using arrow keys and enter. Just press right until no button is highlighted and then hit enter.

I'll check the armor. The best you could do is to create new thread for it. There are very gifted modders around.
