Giggsy
how come none of the mods i download and Extract in my oblivion folder show in the game even though i turn them on in the data file window? please help cuz theres alot of cool mods i wanna try!!! Hello, sir :)I will try to answer this as best I can. Let's say that the mod you've downloaded, is a weapons mod, that add the sword "thunder sword" to the game. The mod you downloaded(thunder sword), usually consists of three objects. Those are :-A mesh folder. This one contains the 3d-model of the sword.-A texture folder. This contains the texture for the correct mesh.In this case, the thunder-sword mesh.-and an Esp. file, that is the plugin. Ok, are you with me so far? :) Ok, let's proceed. (let's just say) You installed Oblivion into- C:\Program Files\Elder Scrolls\ in this folder, you will have a "data" folder, and inside the date-folder ( c:\program files\elder scrolls\data" )and this is where you drag and drop both of the "meshes" folder, and the "textures" folder from the Thunder-sword mod mentioned above. You will be asked something about the folder "Meshes" already exsisting and that the info is transfered. Click yes to this. And finally, move the esp(esm) file into the same folder (c:\program files\elder scrolls\data")Now, you are set. But we are not done yet! You keeping up?Ok, now you must launch your Oblivion launcher. It is located in the c:program files\elder scrolls -folder.This will open a Oblivion launcher. Here you will get several options. One of them is "data files". Click this one, and you will see all the mods that you have added. Click the "thunder-sword". Now that is it :) When you play the game, you will be able to buy the sword, or find it if it is involved in a quest :D Some reasons that the mod won't go, can be that you need a later version of Oblivion. You can try and update your oblivion to the latest version. I believe you can visit the Bethsoft site for more info, and maybe there are some links here to "official patches" :)Other reasons can be that you may need Shivering Ises, or some other mod :DIf you've downloaded Exnemiesed stuff, you will still need the original download :) Hope this helps, and hope you succeed in pimping your Oblivion ;) Thanks for your time :)
Glue
Just for my two pennies I would guess Giggsy's last piece of advice is the most likely answer. I came back to oblivion for a second go after a long period off and did not realize that the Construction Set had been updated and that more importantly none of the mods created with it would work in my un-patched game. I figured it out quite quickly but as most people don't mention it and assume everyone has patched i was at a loss for a while as to why suddenly 75% of the mods i downloaded did squat!I know it seems obvious but it really should be included in File Requirements of all uploads what version of Oblivion the mod is created for. Not everyone will have upgraded. One of Oblivion's notorious quirks is that you can't always get those patches to work without problems so many give up. Well, maybe this is not your prob but i wanted to mention it.
