drakeelvin
I know that using the right mouse button lets me rotate objects on their X-Y axis, but how do I rotate an object along its Z axis? I want to make books stand upgright on a shelf and not lay flat. Thanks!
deno
Trying holding down either X, Y, or Z when using the right-mouse button to rotate the object. For some reason when it comes to moving on a single axis, the keys used are mixed up. So on mine the Z key controls the X axis, X controls the Y, and Y controls the Z. Should help you get it right.

On my system, Z does let me alter the vertical axis so I've just made my first book stand up. Now I feel kind of dumb that I never thought of trying those keys earlier, mind you the A key was always in there and I never really noticed it for 2 months because I thought it was tied to Navmesh but its also for turning on the lights! lol :D Edited May 24, 2011 by drakeelvin
laochra
well for more precise movements when you double click on the object in the render window it brings up another menu with which you can edit movements.
drakeelvin
@laochra The double click works excellent, it will really help when I'm trying to place two objects side by side, to make them line up paralledl! Thank you!
stevie70
well for more precise movements when you double click on the object in the render window it brings up another menu with which you can edit movements.an additional tip here: in the 3d-data-tab, you can increase/decrease the values in the numeric entry-fields with cursor up/down-keys, incremented by whatever you enter in the snap-value-field beside, but (other than snapping in the render window) without "snapping" the value (meaning, if you have, say, x: 21.5 and snapping set to 16, and press the up-key, it goes to 37.5 and not 32 or whatever. this works for x/y/z-pos as well as for angle (and rotating on only one axis!), and i really find that invaluable for precise positioning (especially with partly covered objects etc)
drakeelvin
That is very helpful, especially because putting things on shelves has always been one of the most difficult aspects when you are trying to put an object between the upper and lower shelves, etc... I've often found myself dragging an object by its corner out to somewhere less obstructed, then orienting it the way I want, then dragging it back, but knowing all these tips will save me a lot of time and carpal tunnel.
