Jack-o-lanterns

I found a Morrowind mod called Lions Den that has jack-o-lanterns as part of the decor. Not sure if they are lit or not since I don't own a copy of Morrowind to try the mod out. I also found (on the web) a photo of a (real-life) carved pumpkin where someone carved the oblivion logo as the jack-o-lantern face. On TesSource someone posted a mod for oblivion (sorry can't remember who) that allows the player to throw pumpkins as bombs and in the comments section a suggestion was made to carve them into jack-o-lanterns. As far as I can tell that suggestion was never taken or at least not currently posted for download.

 

My suggestion is to have carved pumpkins for display or to wear as a helm. I'm not a modder so am unsure as to wether the display jack-o-lanterns could be made to light up or not. If not, just having them as unlit carved pumpkins would satisfy me. Though I must admit having them glow so that when they were placed outside the doors to the Oblivion homes (or elsewhere) would look fantastic. They could add lighting plus a fun Halloween atmosphere.

 

Maybe instead of using a pumpkin as the file to be modded, an open container of some sort could be modded to look like a jack-o-lantern and the player could then place a light inside. There are several small portable lamp mods and even candles from the Imperial Furniture mod (for download on TesSource) that could be used for this purpose.

 

Or perhaps the mod could contain the small lamp or candle already in the jack-o-lantern. That would probably be the best way to go if it can be done. That way you don't have to start with an open container (a large round one may be hard to find) but could just mod a pumpkin instead and have the features appear to glow OR look like they have a candle you can see through the features.

 

As for the helm I'm not sure if an effect of glowing that appears to come from inside could be achieved or not. I'm thinking a combination of a light spell effect on the outside of the jack-o-lantern helm with even brighter glowing white or yellow features might work if someone could get it to work and look right.

 

If there is a way to make the light spell effect less green and more golden or white it would look incredible on a player riding horseback at night! Plus it could substitute for the torch or lamp they may normally carry or maybe work in conjunction with one of them for a really great 'Headless Horseman' look.

Found a resource for the jack-o-lantern helm and possibly the decorative jack-o-lanterns too.

 

There is a mod on Tessource named 'Masks' by jcarl904. In the description the author gave permission for these to be used as a modders resource.

 

One of the masks is a jack-0-lantern. However, the masks have a few problems at the moment. They cannot be removed (without floating in mid-air) and then picked up again (from your inventory) and they are stolen. Though you can get them in barrels outside the Floated Bloat in IC Waterfront and those are not stolen.

 

The jack-o-lantern mask in that mod is a good start. However the character's face can be seen through the eyes, nose and mouth holes. If these could be closed and possibly made to glow it would be better (imho.) Also instead of being a mask maybe it could be a helm with armor protection?

 

If someone could figure out a way to remove that mask from inventory without it ending up floating in mid-air it could also be a good decorative item even as is. Though glowing facial features would make it really cool!
