For Serious Castlevania Style Mod

Since I have a long summer before I have college I have an idea to work on for an Oblivion mod. A Castlevania mod of sorts, but one that will be blended into the lore of the Elder Scrolls Realm. I am going to try to make a Vanilla only verson, and add mods to improve the experiance overtime.

Here is what I have planned thus far.

Dracula - Dracul is the Daedric Lord of Vampires, but is also known as the Prince of Darkness. He is unique among the daedric prince population as he almost the super combination of all of them. He is destructive, has a castle that is the manifistation of madness, and he controls the night and its creatures. The list goes on.

Simon Belmont - Well this is the player of course. The player takes the like-role of Simon Belmont, and defeats Dracul before he can destory Nirn.

Castlevaina - I will try to capture the uniqueness and the scale of the castle. It will have it's own personal worldspace so that it doesn't interfere with any mods installed on the main worldspace.

No super huge details yet, but it will have a quest. The player will even get introduced to his/her own family.

Well, this sounds interesting. I can think of some lore issues regarding him being a daedric prince, but I'm more wondering how you're going to handle introducing the player's character to his/her own family. People play different vanilla races, and also custom races. Some of those are rather unusual. Someone might be playing a triton, or for that matter, a sheep. Yep, some people do play as sheep, because there are mods that make such things possible. You might need to tell downloaders they must be playing whatever race the family is going to be. Otherwise if the character is an Argonian and the family are Bretons or something, it would make no sense. Also some players might have their own ideas of what their character's family is like. I'm not familiar with Castlevania but a big castle with a quest and a really powerful vampire sounds like fun. :)

I thought of the race issue quiet a bit, and I hope I have a good work around to the situation. I can't reveal exactly because it would end up spoiling some of the plot. It won't be. The whole idea of having a family is to connect the character with the storyline of the quest. I could think of some work around to the whole family idea by bringing someone elses family into the mix? I am not sure, so I am willing to hear suggestions. Adoption maybe a possiblilty, or like I said someone elses family. I honestly don't want to force the players to be or do anything they don't, so I'll give it a lot of thought.

The lore idea was simply to make it feel like it fits into oblivion, but I guess I could make him a Vampire Lord that can rival daedric princes? (If that sounds possible) I just wanted Dracul to sound extremely powerful, which he is of course.

Thank you for the in sight Telyn.

Bah it's not too weird to me. Castlevania is like an alternate dimension where reality gets twisted. It is never the same way twice. Afterall, the castle is like a living thing. I don't find it too strange to see his castle pop up in Tamriel somewhere. Heck, a Belmont might of destroyed Dracula and his castle vanished into another dimension and ends up here. Where DOES it go when it goes poof for a few decades?

And Dracula is a more full-fledged demon than a typical bloodsucker. What Daedric princes you know of who are pals with death? :D

As for blending the hero's story with this. Look at Morris, he's not a Belmont. What's stopping a Belmont from asking you for help? Richter sure needed Alucard's help.

My original thought was actually almost spot on with yours Ghoulz. Having the player be a third party observer and help the Belmont who is going to destroy Dracula. I am actually planing on having Alucard appear to assist the player during the questline.

Anwsering one question though is that I am simply going to make a mace the Vampire Killer, because inessence the Vampire Killer is simply a Flail. A mace-like object with a spike studded ball on the end of a chain. The Steel Mace is the best match to the Vampire Killer.

I am going to look at several castles and pick out places that will be familar to players who have played the series. SoTN, SCV4, AoS, Bloodlines, LoI, CoD (Curse of Darkness) are going to be the main influences.

I also need boss suggestions here are some I know I can add just using the Vanilla Characters and Creatures:

Dracula

Death

Armor Lord

Doppelganger

Giant Skeleton

Hellhound

I will be drawing out level schematics along with quest plot line details this weekend on my trip to Chicago. I am hoping to make it challenging on the player.

Please submit ideas or suggestions. I know that two Castlevania mods exist, but I promise you that I won't be taking any ideas from them directly.

I also plan on making a music script that plays music based upon the location that the player is in. I am talking about classic Castlevania music here guys.

I would like to see Balore (the melty eye one from the DS games), Gergoth, Beelzebub and Abaddon. Probably most are not possible, but I was thinking that Balore could be cool if "The Killing Moon" effects were used for the eye. Abaddon would probably be the only one which is realistic to model though . Sounds like a really cool idea

I have worked on the castle layout as much as I could this weekend, and I am going to start the mod officially as of today. I will make small castle sketches along with figuring out the quest details. If anyone wants to beta test please let me know, and I will send you a copy of the current version. Thinking ahead a bit, I am going to use SI as well.

Things I am going to do -

Create a unique Castlevania lore for Oblivion.

Create a large Castle with a world space that will be some what explorable.

Unique enchanted weapons and armor to give you an edge in Dracula's dark realm.

A huge cast of bosses, some of which won't be a single enemy. ;)

Scripted Boss battles to make battles much more intense. Dracula will teleport and transform into many forms (As powerful as he should have been), and Death will be like how he was in Castlevania 1.

Characters that will be added/referenced to -

Dracula

Simon Belmont

Alucard

Death

Rinaldo Gandolfi

The Master Librarian

and even more to come...
