Geralts Eye Color

Recommended Posts

Yeah its wierd, I converted geralt_eyes.xbm to dds and altered the color. Then I repackaged it and put it in CookedPC (where geralt's stuff is located), and his eyes showed up all blue in game lol. I even made sure I had geralt_eyes_s.dds in the folder to.

I found the eyes under:

characters/player/model/head

Though I'm not sure if this is what is needed to actually mod his eyes, cause again they showed up all blue.

yea i believe its just a specular file...accounting for how much his eyes glow. Im starting to think they just use a regular eye color from the npc folder add glow and the slit to make the witcher eye.

There are two files that govern Geralt's eyes, both in the characters/player/model/head as mentioned above. The geralt_eye_s is the specular map for how they reflect light. The actual appearance is the geralt_eye file.

The way I edited them was first I changed the texture file to how I wanted it to look - you can change color, intensity, etc. in photoshop. Make sure to use the dds plugin for photoshop and not the nvcompress.exe as this file removes the alpha filter.

The specular map is a little trickier. I isolated the iris and pupil in photoshop as a separate layer in the texture file and copy and pasted it into the specular map file. Then converted the layer to grayscale and adjusted the gray levels with the replace color and contrast adjustments in photoshop. To edit the specular map correctly, you need to pay attention to the different color channels. The actual map is in the red channel with a black background, fill the green channel with #128, 128, 128, and the blue channel with all white.

My edit increases the intensity of the yellow in Geralt's eyes and makes them reflect more light. Changing Geralt's eyes also changes other witchers' eyes.
