basic noob problem...I hope!

Recommended Posts

Hello there, I have installed several mods and while they all appear on the Data file list only one works ingame, the Armementarium mod. I hope I have just copied files into the wrong place, any advice would be great.

The OS is Vista btw & the game is installed outside the default/programfiles/Bethesda....etc. I have updated the latest patch too.

For starters:

Never load an esp before an esm. You have Vilja loading first.

Never have ANYTHING loading before the Oblivion esm.

Those DLC applications in your Oblivion folder? Those are installers, run them, but make sure to change filepath to where you have the game installed.

Using BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) will keep you from having problems with your load order, as long as you have installed your mods correctly.

First thing to do is move the game to C:\Games\Oblivion - that'll save MANY problems down the line. There's a guide to how to do this on the Nexus.

Next, download and install BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software). That will, when run, organise your mods so that they stand the best chance of working together properly, including sorting out the problem with .esm and .esp files being in the wrong order. Remember to update the masterlist file for BOSS before running.

Next, read up on how to install mods - the working stuff you've been lucky with but at least one is screwy or you wouldn't have the OMOD conversion data folder where it is. The sticky topics are tyhere for a good reason - read them!

You may also find OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) to be very useful, although with only a few mods it isn't actually necessary. It is used to handle the OMOD mod files, and can save a fair bit of aggro. Wrye Bash is the best manager, but is far more complex to get working and become familiar with.

Guys! that wasn't a load order, just a pic of OP's data folder.

palewarrior, MarkUK has a few links you will need, also Bben46 has a reinstall method for Vista/Win7 that is a must to rid oneself of many problems from UAC, somewhere here on the Nexus. I will try and post when I find it.
