SwissMidget
First off thank you for taking a look at my post. To my knowledge I haven't been able able to find anyone else with the same issue I have been having. So I have started dabbling in modding and I am pretty sure all my mods are playing nice with each other. I am launching the game through steam using a custom launcher connected to fnv4gb.exe in the folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas. I have made sure to do the archiveinvalidation so the meshes play nice with each other. I found a link on nexus mods that did it automatically for me. The issue I am having is that I am trying to start a new game. After the intro plays through and I get into the game I get a notification that the sorting container plugin requires NVSE. I have attached a screenshot of the screen that pops up. I have downloaded the latest stable version of NVSE and put the .exe and .dll files at the same location as fnv4gb like the instructions specified. If I type in GetNVSEversion into the console it returns with a version 5 as what it loaded. From the screenshot you will notice it claims I have version 0.00 installed. I am not 100% sure what mod this goes with as I don't have a mod labeled sorting container. Instead it appears to be part of another mod. If you need any other info such as what mods I have installed or specs of my system please let me know. This is really the first time I have run into something I really can't figure out on my own. dubiousintent
The "sorting containers" are usually included in other mods (typically some form of "player house") instead of their own mod. There should be an "NVSE.log" file in the "FalloutNV" folder (not "Data"). That should give you a clue as to why you are getting that error. Then the mod will create a "Data\NVSE" folder which has a "nvse_config.ini" file and a "plugins" subfolder when an NVSE plugin is installed. -Dubious- Edited March 7, 2016 by dubiousintent
SwissMidget
Thanks for the reply. I checked the log you suggested and here is what it came back with... dubiousintent
I'm not an expert on NVSE, but I don't see anything obviously wrong in that log. However, it shows that you have Steam installed in the default "C:\Program Files(x86)" tree. That can cause lots of weird issues, including things like preventing plugins creating new files. It alone may be the entirety of your problem. Suggest you read the "Installing Games" article in my signature, and move Steam out of that folder tree. My "nvse_config.ini" file only has: [Memory] DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=400 so it probably needs you to make a configuration change to exist (can't really recall). Your screenshot shows a loading notice that a "new caliber of 7.62x39mm" has been added, probably from "CaliberX". That means the mod having trouble is either "CaliberX" (or equivalent) or later in the load order. If you can narrow it down to the specific mod, you can check the "bugs" or "posts" on it's download page to see if others have the same problem and any solution. -Dubious- Edited March 7, 2016 by dubiousintent
SwissMidget
Yes that is where my steam files are located. I think I had potential issues before where I had to move the install directory. I completely uninstalled steam and reinstalled and moved it. Then ended up reformatting the computer and couldn't remember if I changed the steam folder or my nexus mod manager folder. Yes I have caliberX. I actually got it trying to fix the nvse issue with a patch. Probably a stupid way to go about it. I also have a few other mods that add in weapons and new ammo types. Is the link you are referring to about moving the directories the "Installing games on windows vista+"? I am just about to go to bed so I will check after work tomorrow about getting everything moved.
dubiousintent
Re:Is the link you are referring to about moving the directories the "Installing games on windows vista+"? Yes. Sorry about being lazy and not fully spelling it out. Though the actual link on "moving Steam" is in that article. That way you get the latest, most up-to-date "official" instructions from Valve. I just researched why it was necessary, and why some other suggested solutions don't work as well. -Dubious- Edited March 7, 2016 by dubiousintent
SwissMidget
I got the process started. Wont be able to get it completely done tonight. Just wanted to let you know I did find the instructions and am following them. The next fun part, I am not for sure I have to do it but I would rather be safe than sorry, is move the mods over. I created a separate partition just for my steam games and I just have a feeling it might be a smart idea to move those over also
dubiousintent
Once you accept the need for partitioning, I recommend moving everything that absolutely doesn't have to be in the "C:" drive partition out. That way you reduce the size of your System backups. Personally I use separate "System", "Apps", "Games", and "Data" partitions. Some programs absolutely insist on installing into the "C:\Program Files" tree. But most will allow you to change where they go via the "Custom Install" option. Those go into "Apps". Then you can schedule backups more precisely according to how often each partition changes content. More backup files, but smaller in size making for easier "off drive" (i.e. CD/DVD/USB/Cloud) storage. I put my downloads in "Data", and unpack my mods into "Games". That keeps the originals separate and pristine. System "swap" files go elsewhere than "C:", depending upon which has sufficient room and less volatility. "Apps" usually. That lets the majority of the free space go to "Games" and "Data". Depending upon your use, either of those may fill up the fastest and need the most room. -Dubious- Edited March 9, 2016 by dubiousintent
