Using a gun as melee weapon

You can do it for pistols (the attack animations work well with a handgun) but a new model is required (at least the way I do it) for each weapon. It may be possible to do it for a bayoneted rifle (using one of the thermite lance animations, and also requiring new models), but I don't know of any attack animations that convincingly mimic a rifle butt smash.

 

I'll put together a demo (when I have a little time) of a single pistol as an example. There may be other ways of doing it (ie forcing a special animation) but this is the only way I'm confident it will work trouble free. The downside is of course a new model for each weapon, but the model is re-used from my display weapons project, so in a way it's not any additional work.

This is a very early beta and there is still a lot of details to finish, but you get the basic idea. Currently it's only for pistols (energy and firearms). I have two idea's for rifles that *may* work, and I'll try and test them sometime this month.

 

I figured a multi tiered perk might be in order, for the maneuver to increase damage etc
