Steam Error 41; Game Crashes heading into mission

I'm 2 months, game time, in the game and XCOM 2 has been playing well until now.

 

I'm at that point when I'm doing a guerrilla op. Select the mission, choose and outfit squad, launch mission works fine.

The cut scene plays ok as well as the briefing. Press launch mission, I see the Skyranger swoop over the target locaiton. Then at the point when the tactical portion of the game is supposed to start, the screen goes black, music plays for a bit then stops and the game freezes.

 

I have to use task manager to get out of the game, and Steam reports error code 41.

 

I've verified game integrity, it reloaded 2 files, but same problem occurs.

 

Any ideas what could be the issue?

Have you read and tried the solutions in

(there is more there than just verify the game).

 

Also, are you using mods, vanilla, modified some of your ini's yourself ... these things all make changes on what the game is doing, and any number of them could potentially cause this. Plus, the game keeps logs, have you looked there to see what might be happening?

Thanks Traenol. I decided to try a simple solution first, which is to load an earlier save. It worked and I was able to play that mission successfully.
