Which mods to use on the first time playing?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am planning to buy this game and I thought it would be a good idea to list all the mods (balance mods, etcetera) that people advise to use on the first playthrough.

I heard Quen is very overpowered so I wouldn't want to miss a gameplay balance mod right from the start.

I don't make this topic out of laziness or because I want others to do the work.

I reckon many people are helped by being advised to install some mods right away, and I hope this topic can help us choose the right mods from the very start.

Thank you for your time!

I will start by saying:

This is a mod that should or could be installed right away:

I personally think first time playing should be without any mod period.

I mean how are you to determine what someone else advises you is indeed better/more fun for the way you like to play the game?

Play it straight up and choose the mods that you think improve your gameplay/fun by experience.

Experience the game with all it's flaws, pro's and con's.

Just my two pence for ya...

Enjoy playing the Witcher 2!!!!

Don't bother with mutagen mods for the first play, they result in a crazy easy game.

Mark Prices mod will make it worth while selling stuff at vendors (i never bothered before, even the epic items were worth very little)

Get one of the weight mods unless you enjoy running back to empty your bags often.

There a texture mod to change the dice back to white dice with dots.. Makes it MUCH easier to see what you have rolled.

aside from that, everything else seems to be either unbalancing mods or texture mods.

Better Combat is pretty good. I'm on my first playthrough using that, no weight for recipes (i just feel it was a dumb design decision on CPR's part) and one of the UI "enhancers" that i found on GOG.

Somewhat related to the original topic, I was wondering if applying both the better combat mod as well as the equipment overhaul mod would overcompensate for the difficulty. Both are aimed to curve the balance issues with the game, but I would like to ask if using both would unbalance the game in the other direction. Thank you.

I'm in agreement with Marcvss, on the first playthrough don't bother with mods, they aren't actually needed for getting through the game, and that way you'll learn what you can and can't do within the gameworld. Once you have played it all the way through you'll have a far better idea of what would enhance your personal game and what would be a waste of time. Everyone has a different way of playing games and what might be the ideal form of play for one person dosen't mean that it'll be right for you. You could follow everyone's advice, crash in a plethora of mods and then hate the way the game plays.

I looked on the mods database. The one mod I would like to see is an updated one that boosts how many Orens you get from selling. I like to play a game through untainted, but I am a money hoarder lol. I really like being able to buy what ever I want in game. You people do a very good job on these mods. I have no complaints. (even if I did, you could say "Go @#$% yourself!" :P ) So if anyone has a link to a mod for that, plz feel free to let me know? Keep up the good work.
