im having this issue with ctds in the city since update 1.4, at first i wasn't sure what it was but it seems to be mod related problem, i deleted both Fallout4.ini and the custom ini and tried it, it worked fine, then i added only the lines to use mods and ctds are back but only happens in the city, i can play if i stay away from the city without ctd but as soon as i get close it happens... anyone knows what could be the problem? wich mod is causing it?

Here is my load order:

I have found that CTD in game will happen under several conditions that include;

1) CTD when the game launches,

2) Crashes at a specific location in the game,

3) When opening the Workshop,

4) When accessing a specific menu or menu item in the Workshop,

5) When it feels like it.

The first thing you do is making sure your three .ini files are not write protected. Seems simple but it happens. Next verify that you have all the correct edits you need for your ini files. Again, seems simple but we are human. This seems to be a common cause of problem One.

Next, run the Fallout4.exe file as administrator. I have found that this has caused problems with people running the game in Win 7, 8 and especially Win 10. Easy enough, right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator". This can cause problem One and Two, sometimes.

Problems three and four are very specific, there is a file missing or a mod is pointing to a wrong location for a file needed by the mod.

If you're a mod creator, open your .esp or .esm and make sure all your edits are pointing to the correct file location(s) and that file(s) exists and has been installed in the correct location.

If you're the gamer, disable all your mods and reenable them one at a time. What may have happened is a mod was disabled and removed a file that another mod was using as well. Happens all the time. Once you find the culprit, reinstall that mod and you are golden. If you've just installed a mod, then it may have a conflict with another mod, you may need to change the load order, or it may have overwritten a file with a corrupt version. Go back to your mod author's site and look for incompatibilities with your installed mods, look for updates to your mods, or ask in the mod author's forums about the problem, if you know it's a specific mod.

Try starting a new game to test your games operation. I've seen corrupted save game files cause problems with CTD.

The last solution to these problems is the most radical. Do a clean install. Uninstall the game, go back to its former location and make sure all the files are gone, all sub-directories are removed. If you kept your save games, move them to a backup directory.

Now do a clean install, with all the latest patches. DO NOT INSTALL MODs YET! Make the necessary ini edits. Verify that the game is loading and you can play. Now make a copy of the /DATA/ directory and all its contents and rename it. /DATA_Bkp or whatever you call your backup files. This /DATA_Bkp is now your 'Clean Install' directory. If you ever feel the need to do another clean install, just delete the contents of the existing /DATA directory and copy all the files back into it from the data backup directory. Now you can install your mods. Do them one at a time, and verify that the game loads and operates as expected. Lastly, move your save game file(s) back into the save game directory and try them. I've seen corrupted save game files cause crash problems.

This list and these solutions are not all inclusive. These are just the most common I have found.

Good luck troubleshooting!
