Major 1.05 patch

It's that time of the year again, where you have a sequal to fix and an original to flick. Unlike ME, where there isn't anymore patches, Origins and Awakening are going though a massive patch. These include broken plot-flags and convos fixed by the community. These will eventually add up to the "official unofficial patch" 1.05, distributed to all users. Currently there is no major announcement of when it will be release but for you people here at the nexus who haven't kept up with the news the patch 1.05 is currently at beta. So here's to patch 1.05!

For more info please check out PC tech support for Origins here: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/7137421&lf=8

The link works properly, either you don't have an EA account (which is your BioWare account) or your Internet is blocking the link. There is no announcement of a release date as of yet.

As BKE indicated, there are two different efforts going on with the BioWare DAO team right now.

First, there's the "official" 1.05 patch which is specifically focused on fixing the installation and DLC authorization problems that have plagued many users for months-and-months now. (It's possible that there will also be an attempt to address at least some causes of CtD, but I'm not sure about that...)

An initial version was distributed to the beta test team, and the results of that round of testing are being analyzed and the patch re-worked. Compounding the difficulty of that effort has been the problem of the EA (not BioWare) servers failing to correctly recognize user credentials to keep folk logged-on when the appropriate option box is ticked. That's not really a "BioWare" issue, but obviously impacts a player's experience.

Then there's another work-stream directed at the errors with plot-flags, item-attributes, relationship-status, etc. This is what BKE called the "official UNofficial patch" (as did the BioWare devs themselves.) Personally, I think this'll end-up being a sticky topic thread on the BSN with a link to a collection of "Community-Developed and BioWare-Tested" fixes. Sure hope it includes all the Alistair, Morrigan, and Zevran dialogue patches. There is a lot of great content already in the game that just needs to be triggered correctly! (Whereas things like "Weakens Nearby Darkspawn" not working don't both me nearly as much. )

Anyway, I'm very glad to see that I was mistaken a while ago when I guessed that with the 1.04 patch, BioWare was "done working on DAO". Even if they don't get around to fixing everything, they are still engaged.

That's kind of you to think of us on Nexus, but didn't you post about this recently on another thread. Until they get it sorted I'm not touching any beta testing download, I'll stick with the mod fixes we have here, but thank you all the same.

Hi, ell!

Just making it clear that there are two different DA:O efforts, which are trying to address two different sets of issues. Folk wanting fixes for one set shouldn't expect any help from the "patch" for the other.

No sense in people thinking "The next patch will fix [x]", when it's designed to fix [y], then having two-dozen "I'm so disappointed" threads created and weeks of flaming posts because it didn't do anything about [x]!

Hi Thandal

I don't understand why BW are doing a patch for stuff that modders have fixed or found and brought to life. I suppose it's OK for people only just buying it but pointless for many. I really don't fancy disabeling all my mods and fixes only to find the patch is rubbish and doesn't fix everything I had mods for. I really can't be bothered. I don't rate BW that much any more

Lots of threads discussing what might and might not be, seem really pointless to me and as you say it only leads to disappointment and then arguments, life is too short to read fiction about fiction. Wake me up when it's all for real no beta's required, I'm all beted out from some other new software at the moment

I'm replaying Oblivion and waiting patiently for Skyrim with the odd playthrough of DAO.

The "official unofficial patch" is not BioWare working on replacements for the Community-developed stuff, it's gathering all the really working ones together for ease of locating and installing, and making sure they don't a) introduce new problems, or b) conflict with each other.

The truly "official" 1.05 patch is aimed at correcting installation and authorization problems for the (small) number of players who have not been able to get the game or their legit DLC working at all. And maybe, (just maybe. Got my fingers crossed!) addressing some of the CtDs issues that still plague many of us. Primarily those with multi-core and/or 64-bit and/or 4+GB RAM rigs.
