stevie70
stevie70 thank you soooooooooooooooooo much ,if you wanna you can be first to try weapon when i finish with tweaking .thanks :-) but since i started modding, i hardly get to play any (except right now i have to, because after a reinstall i don't have a single save with a high enough levelled pc to test my current mod... - and whenever i do get to play, i can't walk around two corners without wanting to build something somewhere - the dark sides of modding, i guess... :-) Is it hard to change textures on weapon if i have them,?Id love to change them with better ones i downloaded, but dunno how, i tryed in NV edit and i dont get how to do it.not exactly hard (you'd use nifskope for that, not nvedit), but you'll definitely need some basic understanding of geck etc for that, and there's definitely no way you could use some textures you downloaded somewhere (well and have your weapon look better afterwards that is), but you'll need some texures that fit that specific item
Xenno
i downloaded textures from this mod:http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16017I watched some videos on youtube about geck, and now i do understand a lot more. Here is what i did:i opened geck, and loaded file u send me and NV main file, then selected weapon Lazy Lary :) and choose edit , then open art and sound, under model selection i selected NIF files (Weapons\2HandRifle\laserrifle.nif & Weapons\2HandRifle\laserrifleworld.nif) Then i went to the miscellaneous selection\texture set and added all DDS files from mod i downloaded , and this is part where i dont know what to do... I went back to art and sound and wanted to edit model , but how to know what DDS file goes to what 3d name like example : 3D name (##LR_Trigger:0 ) 3D Index (5) New Texture (laserrifle01.dds) So problem is i dont know does 3D name matches texture DDS i selected ... Hope i was on good way , and i hope i atleast explained good what i have doneMy very simple request doesnt sounds so simple anymore :) Edited June 4, 2011 by Xenno

iaai0110
You already have the .nif (mesh file) and .dds (texture files) right? If you double click on the laser rifle, it will come up. just rename it. Now you have two laser rifles with different names, the same, with the same mesh and textures. Now ok. Double click again on your new laser rifle and it will come up. Click on the mesh (nif), navigate to the new mesh. oknow if you look at the line of your new laser rifle and scroll to the extreme right it will tell you what texture it is using. The way I changed the meshes and textures was to put them in the same folders as the original item with different names. Then, voila, it is done. If it comes up with no texture, it tells you were the texture should be, so put it there and you're done. Re-reading your posts it looks like you just have some texture files only. If you put the texture files in the location where the texture files were for the original laser rifle, you will change the textures for all laser rifles. So what, you're playing your game and you're only using your textures; but this is simple. Like I said before you will find the location of the expected texture files on the line at the far right. You will have to create the folders because the folders, mesh and texture files for the laser rifle are buried in the bsa file. After you put in your new textures, you're going to have tell the game "not to look for the texture files in the bsa but in the place you put them." You do this by adding archive invalidated.bsa and changing the three ini files for FNV. Instructions are given upon downloading the invalidated.bsa from the utility category on FNV Nexus. Actually, once you accomplish this, it will seem quite simple and will give you a lot of basic understanding of how mods work.
