How do you create your own Arena poster?

Hello!

I was just wondering if anyone knows how you can create files for the arena poster from a normal image. I've tried a bit myself, here's what I've done:

1. I make the size of the image fit the size of the poster (the lenght-width ratio).

2. I use an image converter program to convert the image into dds-format.

3. I rename the file to "icarenaposter01", I then make a copy of that file and name it "icarenaposter01_N".

4. I copy both files to the data/textures/architecture/imperialcity directory and overwrite existing ones.

5. I load the new textures through OBMM.

Most of the time, this works fine for me, but sometimes when the image is very bright it gets this kind of shining effect in-game.

So, my question is simply if I am doing this right and if there's any way of preventing the shining effect.

Thanks for any answers!

It sounds like you don't have an actual normal map, and that is changing your shininess.

3. I rename the file to "icarenaposter01", I then make a copy of that file and name it "icarenaposter01_N".

This is the step where things go wrong for you. File "icarenaposter01_N" is not supposed to be a pretty colorful thing identical to your in-game poster, it is supposed to be this funky-looking blue and pink thing that gives the computer coded information on how textured the object is and how light should reflect off of it. To create a proper normal map, you can use GIMP or Photoshop. There are various tutorials on how to do it available on the wiki. This one talks briefly about it: Better Retextures Tutorial
