Armistice11
Alright, for part of my quest, the player has to seek out a shining rock. I made it shine by simply putting a light over the rock. I set the rock and the light to be visible at a distance, and went into the game. I could not see the light until I was unreasonably close. I wanted it to show at a distance. I then opened my video options, and set the specular disatnce to the highest (was originally at the bottom) Still no difference. Any ideas? ThxSetting Visible When Distant requires regenerating the LOD data for that cell. However since lights aren't tied to any actual mesh, even after regenerating the LOD data, the light may still not show up. If you can find a light that shows up at a distance within oblivion, it's possible, otherwise it isn't. If you need to know how to do the VWD stuff, you might want to do some searching, I'm farily sure most of what you would need to know can be answered from reading older topics. snakejawz
I would also consider making it a quest object for those people who cant seem to see the light... <chuckle>
PanzerOfGod
What you might try doing is loading the mesh into nifskope and editing its material property to be abnormally bright and then save it in a new folder within data\textures. Then, make a new static object and put your new rock as its nif. That way, the rock itself really looks bright, and you don't have to employ the use of a light (which vagrant said might not be able to be seen at a long distance). Thx I've had success with seeing distant lights by changing the fLightLOD2 variable. It is alterable in the Oblivion.ini that is located in your (USER_NAME)\Game\Oblivion directory. (not to be confused with the Bethesda\Oblivion directory). Values in the range of 30000 to 50000 should be ample for your needs.:)
