ninja_lord666
The enchanted Daedric sword would be best, if you wont have a Problem with recharging your sword in the middle of a dungeon (soultrap a creature, catch its soul in a soulgem, Azuras Star would be best, and refill your sword.).Now that you mention it, Umbra would be the best. It's enchantment is soul trap, so your sword would essentially recharge itself.
Magnus61
I like to take and enchant a Daedric Longsword with an Absorb Health Sigil Stone. In effect, your getting two results. You damage the opponents health and heal yourself at the same time. For a melee type, I've found this to be the best result.

xeltius
You can get several enchantments on weapons with any soul gem. The more powerful the effects, the better soul you will need. A petty soul gem with a petty soul in it will not give you as much freedom as a grand soul gem with a grand soul in it. Also, you will only ever be able to enchant armor and other non-weapons with one effect. That strength of that effect is dependant on the soul as well. Better soul = better effect
Sypron
Excuse me if you already know this, but you might not. The problem you may be encountering is that you only HAVE one effect to put on it. If you've started a new game its possible the only aggresive spell you have is fire damage. Also, once you have enchanted an item you can't alter or add to that enchantment. I don't like enchanted items to much, because you have to recharge them and I can't repair them on the fly, but thast preference. If you have the Shivering Isles expansion pack then you can get even stronger weapons. Such as shadowrend Here which does equal damage to Umbra, but only once you hit level 30. Before then its weaker. Also, see thishttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Best_Non-leveled_ItemsFor a list of all the best gear you can obtain from level 1. Eolath
There's a very powerful ebony sword and it's weightless!. (2 PreQs) http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Sins_of_the_FatherAnd there's practicly no level req to get it. Just keep the sword for yourself untill you get a daedric one :D
