No mount Combat??

I heard rumors on the internet that Skyrim's mounts will function the same as Oblivions and the characters will have to dismount from horses to defend themselves from enemies.

Is there any news to confirm that or are people speculating?

It has been confirmed that there is no mounted combat. I believe the reason was if you were able to fight from a horse, what would stop you from only riding the horse? If you just go galloping everywhere, you miss some important stuff. At least that's what I got from it.

Well obviously you couldn't take a horse in dungeons or in closed cities, and they could find a way to limit the character while on the horse, such as only being able to use one hand at a time and keep the other one on the reins or something like that.

Very true, I was merely speculating on the reason. Since no reason was given, that was the one I came up with.

There's this little invention called stirrups that kind of take care of that problem though

Yes, but as someone who grew up with horses, it's not easy controlling an animal with a mind of it's own with only your legs. Unless you're like my sisters who are professionals. And unless you've got a horse who cooperates unlike the ones I dealt with.

On another note, I wonder if you get to use the smithing skill to make horse shoes? Make the horse go faster or something.

Well, I'm sure the modders can figure this one out. Having said that, it's not up to Bethesda what the player does. If the player wants to gallop hither and yon and never once get off their horse, and they miss stuff along the way, that's *their* problem.

Having been a DM, I do understand wanting the players to see and do all the content. But one of the things that makes the TES games great is their lack of railroading. (that should be left to the JRPGs :D)
