win 7 ultimate patch problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I played oblivion on my Xp machine but the motherboard died. The new one runs win 7 ultimate. I loaded oblivion on it the other day and it runs fine and started a new game no problem. But when I try to load my old game saves the programme crashes. I thought this was because I may of patched it, so tried to install patch v1.1 and v1.2.

With both patch I get this patch error;

Old file not found. However a file of the same was found. No update done since file contents do not match.

Anyone have any advice how to solve the patch problem??

Would greatly appreciate any help as I would like to continue where I left off in the game. I don't think I modded the game at all because it was my first run through.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm not a techy so please keep it simple.

First, you don't say if you are using the same hard drive with the same copy of the game. If so, the first thing you will need to do is regenerate the Oblivion.ini file - that is what tells the game what hardware it will be running on - changing a motherboard will cause some differences that can confuse the Oblivion.ini.

If you try to load a save and some of the mods that were running when the save was made are not there it may not be able to load properly.

If the save was made with a different patch level it may not work.

If the save was made with SI installed - even if SI was disabled when the save was made, it may not work.

There are TWO English patches for Oblivion, one for the UK version and one for the US version. But only ONE Shivering Isles patch for both. :facepalm:

If you have Shivering Isles DO NOT install the Oblivion patch. ONLY install the Shivering Isles patch. If you installed any of the earlier SI patches. You MUST reinstall the entire thing again as they will not allow the latest patch.

If you did install any wrong patches, they cannot be undone and you MUST reinstall the entire game again. :confused:
