reillys_pink_ranger
Help ccmechanic!!!! I have been having startup crashes for awhile. Fact is, I haven't been able to get to the start menu in months. I have re-installed 3 times. I have uninstalled, deleted my old folders, re-installed and tried to run vanilla- no mods, using the game's native launcher. No dice, so I know it's not a mod.Updated graphics drivers, run registry cleaner, defragged. Nothing works. I'm left to try 2 more things- delete and reinstall without a Steam update, and failing that, reinstalling Win 7. I had about 68 hours in-game when this happened. I was experiencing random crashes for a few days before this last condition developed, and now Fallout NV is a very expensive drink coaster. Once again, this is happening with NO MODS INSTALLED and with the basic game launcher. I will post results from my latest efforts. reillys_pink_ranger
Great.I'm sure all will join me in my thanks to Steam for forcing me to use a buggy update in order to play a game. Boy, how I wish Steam could run my whole system for me. I'd love to never be able to use my computer again. Well, I re-installed after remembering to delete my My Documents Fallout NV folder. No change in what is happening. I get a couple of slides into the startup routine, and then boom- "Fallout New Vegas has stopped working and must close..." This just sucks. yodidragon
Well, first off you posted a lot more stuff than people would be interested in. Keep it simple. You didn't mention if you are using the steam version. If so, go to your games on steam, right click on fnv, then properties, then verify local cache. It sounds like there is glitch in the program and doesn't knoe what to do, so it quits. If that doesn't work, install nvse, script editor, it has load log that can help pinpoint problems. Also try launching the game with nvse. Launching with steam failed me so many times that don't use anymore. Than tell what happens and maybe post the load log. This just sucks.Egad ! that's a lot to digest ! Give me an hour to go through all this, Which drive are you installing the game to? Your PC is impressive, a lot of toys going on there. I have copied tis post of yours, and it would be beneficial for you to edit and shrink it down or use a spoiler if you know how. but remove it , keep things short. reinstalling it many times indicates Steam fault just as yodidragon said, possible, but, as you also described the conditions taking place, it may be file corruption on the drive your root is based on, Windows makes backup copies every time you install that game, Now you have an immense amount of encrypted windows backups of the game and it trys to replace things from the registry, restoring things, this is a background thing that all systems do. Clean the drive, Pick a different drive, for mat it, and install the game there .But, before you do all that, rol back the system prior to when you started to do all this stuff. The game will be there when you do. Then contact me and I'll walk through it with you. ok
reillys_pink_ranger
Sorry about the deluge...I only just became familiar with how to shroud dxdiag info. Also, I usually like to keep things simple, but I see so many posts where there isn't enough detail in the problem description. Case in point- ccmechanic's reply to me... Anyway, I have the DVD version, installed in the default c:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common location. I have tried launching through Steam, through the executable, through the native game launcher, and through FOMM using the latest NVSE. With FOMM, I get further into the load up, all the way to the slide where the guy is holding the six-shooter, before the menu appears. I have gone through my system to see if I have old drivers or codecs that might be conflicting. I do a lot of multimedia work, so the problem may have occurred after installing some new video codec. I don't know. I deleted all my Divx stuff, I don't use it a lot anyway. I've tried selective startup fixes described in the forums, changing my DEP setting to exclude Fallout *.exe and launcher. I have seen posts (perhaps yours) that address install location. I realize uninstalling/re-installing Steam on another (non-system) drive may be necessary. I also have read that Fallout 3 series doesn't support DX11. Do I need to consider a rollback to DX9? I only have 2 Steam games installed, so I will go ahead and try to re-install Steam to another, pristine drive. In terms of registry- I have cleaned my reg after each time I've un-installed the game. Is this sufficient to wiping the memeory of FNV ever having been there? I see Fallout items on the problem list after each reg scan, and am able to fix them with the app I am using. Short of re-installing Win7, which I am due for anyway, I think I'm at the end of my expertise in fixing this issue. I appreciate the very in-depth help you have provided many here, ccmechanic, and hope I can be another of your success stories. I'll post a load log, thanks yodidragon. Cheers! reillys_pink_ranger
Oh, I need to add that validating cache files always fails, and says it will reacquire, but doesn't. I don't have problems with Left 4 Dead 2 when I run it from Steam.
ccmechanic2
The validating cache thing tells me somthing has been altered on the OS services section, This can happen in multimedia plat forms, I just had a mean run in with Microsoft update placing a fix into my system that put Explorer on the top of the right click menu when looking into sub folders. To fix this, I had no choice to reinstall My OS ...twice.! This time I disabled the OS updates feature in the services section to present this from happening again. I have had this happen to me now three times this year alone so I think it's a sever corrupted file update. Windows 7 is very nasty when it comes to the area you have the game installed to. Yes, install it else where and perhaps steam wont have the problem any more. Permission issues come to mind as to your issue.
reillys_pink_ranger
Thanks for the permissions idea. I'll check that.It also might have been a Win7 update that occurred right before this all started. If so, looks like I'm in for a reinstall.... I have done the following in the last 24: Uninstalled Steam and all steam appsCleaned the registryRestartedReinstalled Steam on a different driveReinstalled FNV---same thing happensDeleted local files for FNV via SteamDOWNLOADED FNV from steam and installedNow FNV crashes within a second or so of launchingVerified cache files- same as before: failed, will reacquire...Tried launching through FOMM/NVSE- no dice, same as before What about DX11? Could that be a problem?
reillys_pink_ranger
I have FNV Edit installed. How do I create a load log like the one Yodidragon talks about?
ccmechanic2
If Fnv loads the game at all, You use the mouse to hi light every thing in the right window ctl + c and paste it into a txt note pad file
