CTD on Startup Problem #53,742

Recommended Posts

FalloutNV.ico << is not showing it's properties in your screen shot, it appears blank, This is an OS problem, { libcef.dll } missing, { ssce5432.dll } is missing, Must have it there.

{Steam.dll} Missing along with all the rest of steams packaging. {crashhandler.dll} steam crash handler is not there, it must be there. {CSERHelper.dll} ,{dbghelp.dll} windows image helper debugger missing, No file association exists as the icon file suggests.

(RPR) with out these files, you will never be able to run that game, If the setup install program and steams updating system, still can not render the icon or file associations on toyr system, then something is wrong with the OS. Start with this first, Desktop Start button, Programs, Default Programs and go set all things to default. Uninstall the games. Clean up the system, reboot, run Uniblue registry cleaner to repair all the damage to your OS, Use cclener to clean up the drives cache and Irronious garbage it finds, run that program 5 times each session, Then us it to fix registry problems, and reboot the PC again, re run cclener and check for registry entry's , If you find even more stuff not the same as before, then you have a trojgen on your system, Trend has been compromised and you have been fooled into thinking you can not be infected. If it comes up empty. we can continue with the default OS repairs and get you in to the game.

I'm having a very similar issue here with Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition, but it's not an OS problem (or so I'd believe). I've reinstalled thrice, am running it with no mods, have tried to use 'fallout3.exe' instead of the Steam launcher, and none of it is working. I get a crash to desktop. Before the reinstalls, it worked perfectly. I'm beginning to assume this is a problem with Steam, as it seems a lot of people are experiencing it for no particular reason and have been for the past week or two.

P.S: I also own New Vegas, but it isn't installed. I need a better processor before a run it, else it's jumpy and buggy.

I have run

UniBlue- which I can't afford to upgrade right now, so it only fixed 15 errors

Advanced System Care- Cnet's top-rated freeware reg cleaner

Glary Utilities

CCleaner

My reg is coming up clean. I have cleaned up drives using CCleaner. I have run Deep Care on ASC twice today. I ran defrag yesterday, though my sys drive was only at 1%. I am enclosing an html file of my full system specs and report.

I can't think of anything else to do.

What next? Oh, and treat me like a noob. There are a lot of settings in some of the apps you mentioned. Be very specific in your instructions. I'm smart, and an advanced PC user, but I'm not as much of a chip head as you (meant to be a compliment...;)

Okay,

I have deep cleaned my registry and OS several times. I opted to buy Advanced System Care, and after cleaning my app list, defragging, etc., my reg comes up clean after the deepest level of cleaning possible with this cnet 5-star app.

I reinstalled FNV, and the files you listed are still missing. I have just reinstalled Steam (after reg scrub and reboot), and here is my Steam install directory. Some of the files you named are here.

Next, I will reinstall FNV, after disabling my firewall and AV.

Stand by.

Yes I see that, Neither Directory has the game files in them. But I have discovered the reason, Want to know why you don't have "PC" related files? Because that's not A PC game directory, that's the data for an xbox or PS 3 console game, Game for windows live files are not there, how on earth would you run a windows made game with out it's support files? Ok, so, I have to assume your down loading your game from steam is this correct? Do you own / or have ever owned a n xbox or PS3 console when dealing with them, Why? because your account is assigned to that piece of hard ware, Hence the server will only provide you with that software. There is no other way this can happen Except this way. Now there are two of you here on this thread also having this same problem. You need to contact steams account suppervisor and explain to them , They have your IP mixed up with the wrong hardware. This happened to me last year so your lucky I know about this snafu. This does not happen often either, but the only way you can get that software off their server is your account is assigned to a console game period. That's why it wont run, Never gonna happen. I down loaded your jpg's and html file to record this. I will send a report to valve about this too. I am a member of valve so I can get some notice of this situation that is occurring. But I promise nothing, can't, you have too contact them your self and get it straightened out. Let me know what happens, and what ever you do, be nice to those folks ok, they just work there, most haven't got a clue as to how the games actually work, and don't care either, but they do know the server side of things. Honey, not vinegar ok.

Here's the report I sent to Steam:

For several months, I have been unable to get to the start menu for Fallout New Vegas. The game crashes after 2 or 3 slides, and an non-descript error message that "FNV has stopped working and needs to close" pops up. I have been working with the help of a member of the Bethesda forums community to rectify this (he is also working for Valve, so really knows his stuff), and he believes that the issue may be with Steam updating my PC as though it were an Xbox or PS3. I own an Xbox, but have never had any related contact whatsoever with Steam through that platform. The reason he believes this is the issue is because I have sent him screenshots of my Steam and FNV install directories, and several files are missing. He says the contents seem to mirror console data rather than PC data, and this is causing the game not to run correctly. Here is a link to the detailed discussion:

I cannot determine if my Steam account is tied in with my console. If it is, I do not want it to be in any way. I do not play Steam client games on that machine, and I'd just as soon not even have Steam aware that I own one, if it will interfere with my FNV.

I am attaching my system specs, and screenshots of my Steam and Fallout New Vegas install directories. I am very keen to get this resolved, so let me know if there is any additional info you require to proceed. Thank you.

Thanks, cc. I hope this clears it up. I'm gettin' the Fallout withdrawal shakes. Hopefully Steam is more responsive than other companies, like ea (bastards).

Lol ! yeah that should do it, I'll hear about it for sure, but the IT's will adjust it or they will give you instructions after they make adjustments to your account, In either sense of it all, you will be required to authenticate once more of the product and them re-download it, This time you will have the PC version instead, Now understand , Once they do that, It may effect any other console games you may have because it's a centralized server that does all this world wide. As long as your respective in your approach, you will be treated that way, they will also verify your account status as well. So you did open your steam account with a console box. See how easy that was? well not too easy , but I had a hunch, Now the other fella that was here may also be in the same boat as you. To day I just got off Xbox online with the PC and helped about 105 folks also in this boat ,xbox is Microsoft servers and cross connects to steam too. They also had a miss mash of different game types installed on both clients, Talk about a mess, so this is why I said to be nice to those folks, They can make your day in a good way or really make you wish you ever heard of them Lol !

I hope this doesn't matter, but I opened my Steam account with Half-Life and have never used my console in connection with any steam game. I've only ever played Madden and NCAA football on it. I don't know how the mix up occurred. I have the DVD version of FNV, but did download it once as a test for the problem. I hope this does it. I appreciate your help, and I hope I can finally close my ticket with you. At least now I know where to turn if I have issues in the future. Thanks! Edited by reillys_pink_ranger
