distortedrealms Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Last year I upgraded to a evga gtx 970 from a 750ti and the game was amazing, 150 mods and in third person I could move around with hd packs and have no stutter on mostly ultra settings. The last six to eight months my game has slowly become more...unstable with ctd in places where many npc were in battle (warzones) and increasing stutter even with low resolution textures. Skse memory patch, and enboost configured correctly (and memory blocks log showing no where near the memory limit), and anti-aliasing was ridiculous even on high, with texture shimmer, and edges everywhere when moving to the point the game was almost not worth it to play. I thought my card was going south, and I reinstalled skyrim many times, countless new games, etc. Honestly I was about to wipe my pc and start over when for the hell of it I rolled back my driver to one from last year when i remembered it being playable and lo and behold, four days later stable and smooth as it can get. Turned out to be the drivers from the last year or so. If your having issues with Skyrim, try rolling back to a previous driver and do a clean install, it may be the source of problems in skyrim. Cheers

jones177 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I don't think it is the drivers. I think it's the card. At the end of 2014 I replaced my 680 4gb with a 970. The 680 was totally smooth playing Skyrim but the reviews at the time said the 970 was 20% faster & I wanted that 20%. In this game I only got 2 to 3 fps increase & the game stuttered. I dialed out most of the stutter by using ENBoost & ENB. All other games I played ran fine. A few months after I purchased the 970 I replaced it with a 980 sc. The 980 was a lot smoother than the 970 in this game using the same drivers & inis. The 970 is still being used by a family member & it is still performing well with modern games. I now use a 980 ti sc. It took a lot of effort to get it running stutter free in this game. It actually delivered on a 20% increase over the 980 making the effort worth it. I have come to the conclusion that the industry is moving away from DirectX 9 compatibility. The only bench mark that the 680 beat the 970 was DirectX 9. Later
