prisoners in oblivion

I always thought the MD agents where the ones to open those gates, but now I'm wondering: how do they open those gates? With some Ingredients like Martin did? With a spell? And do they have to look at the point a gate appears, or can they just pinpoint a position on a map? Bethesda needs to add a plug-in: Creating Oblivion Portals for Dummies, or something

I've wondered that too...I think it's just that since the barriers are gone, Dagon is establishing His hold on Tamriel. I think the Gates just opened in random areas. However, I think the Mythic Dawn can open Gates where and when they want, but the ones in the wild probably just appeared there when the barriers failed.

That is a good explenation :) . But still how do MD open those gates? They can do it, because (spoiler)

the guy you meet in the forbidden grotto says he was one of the agents who opened the gates at Kvatch

But just look at the quest in bruma , No one is acctuly opening gates, They just appear.

Yes, that's why I'm confused about how a gate is opened. As Ninja_lord said, it is possible most of the gates are just opened by Dagon, probably the ones at Bruma as well. But doesn't the spies journal say something about opening them having to open three gates? And even if they didn't open the gates at Bruma, at Kvatch the MD did open them...

No, I think they just can summon it from a distance...which makes me wonder. Why didn't they just summon gates inside all the cities? Why didn't they summon gates at Cloud Ruler Temple?

Indeed! If they can summon gates in the IC, then why not in the other cities? There are MD spies is most (all?) cities, and still they summon them outside the cities? :glare:

No. MD Agents have to open the gates , Check the journal out. And i think that they only tried to assault bruma and the IC to make it imposible for martin to become emperor , Bruma because the dragon temple was nearby and IC because you know why, Also maybie they didn't wanna waste a so much items on the gates. . And i think the reason why they didn't attack chorrol or whatever is because they wated the fastest and easiest victory by just killing martin. And think about all the items they have to get for the gates.

My theory is that the gates in the wilderness opened auto because the barrier was broken and that they have to open all the great gate stuff themselves because it can't just be pure luck when they opened 3 lesser gate and 1 great just outside´bruma. And it's ind of impossible for them to open so many gates in the wilderness themselves because you need all thoose fancy super rare items , I mean it's 100 % impossible. I don't think you can get a gods blood like 50 times over and ove again the same with all the other items.

Those items you had to get for Martin were not to open an Oblivion Gate; they were to open a gate to Paradise. Paradise is different than Oblivion. The gate to Paradise is different than a gate to Oblivion.

Its not different to Oblivion its just another realm of Oblivion. Each Prince of Oblivion has their own realm which is to their own liking. Azura (often seen as one of few 'good' Daedra lords) has a realm with flowers and beauty. Mehrunes Dagons realm... Well, you get a good enough picture of what that is like right from the start of the game at Kvatch. I think Dagon just let Cameron have some of his realm to convert into paradise (or something like that), so paradise was just a different realm of Oblivion.
