Wasted work after disabling mods

Hi everybody, I only got into Mods this week with mixed results. I downloaded one today where the creator said it may cause the game to crash if you fast travel to South Boston. I disabled it in NMM and the problem cleared. After I reopened the game though it appears that all of my 2 days work with Spring Clean and possibly all the other mods has been undone and in effect I have wasted 2 days. All the other mods show a green tick so why has this happened ? I realise this may be a stupid noob question to some of you but I want to know so that it doesn't happen again.

It's not a stupid question, it's easy to imagine that when you scrap an item it's actually gone and won't come back. However it's not a real object, it's defined by computer code and it can be counter-intuitive.

The game isn't, by default, programmed for those buildings to be removed. The game's normal instructions say that a building should be in that location. The mod Spring Cleaning doesn't just make it possible for those buildings to be scrapped. It makes the game know that it's possible for that building to not be there so that it doesn't just automatically put it in every single time you're at that location.

Unfortunately there's a good chance that the mod also tells the game that it needs to remember whether the building is there or not so even if you reinstall the mod, your work scrapping things probably won't come back because without the mod, the game didn't know that it had to keep track of that, so it didn't record that information in the save file.

In general, unless there's a very good reason to do so, you shouldn't change which mods you're using in the middle of a particular game. It's much more likely to cause problems that way.
