FOMM ISSUE

Recommended Posts

Could possibly a run of something like CCleaner clean out any registry errors? Here is a link to it if you do not know what it does.

http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

I have used this before to clean up after uninstalling games and what not. It removes broken and unused registry keys. Then if you reinstall later it is just like the very first time instead of a bunch of old broken short cuts, files and keys from previous installs laying around to gum things up.

Thanks for the site, trying CC cleaner now, and if was curious after I uninstalled NV went to see if plugins was still in my user folder and hidden and everything and it was; but figured in case deleting it manually or w/e did something bad I would try CC first.

Klipperken

not sure why you bothered to post.... >_> especily first 2 sentences guesss you just enjoy it.

Your opinion is slightly useful to saying that it most likely screwed up for sure, but ya not gonna reboot whole computer or w/e just for NV.

Ok....well it deleted a ton of stuff.., but not the folder or the plugin >_> lol.

It even deleted the cookies I think despite it saying it wouldn't.. though I might have misunderstod it when it said something like do want to find all the cokkies that you wana save, than Yes (recommended) or No lol.

Well unless you suggest another thing or say it defintly bad I am probably just going to delete the folder and instal again to see if that helps tonight.

Is the folder suppose to be hidden btw??

I am using Windows 7 Premium myself. Generally hidden folders when set to be viewed are kind of transparent looking compared to regular folders. If you really want to be 100% sure then in control panel look for folder options. Open that and select VIEW. There is a section with two buttons for hidden folders. If you have the Show Hidden Files Folders and Drives selected then any hidden folders will be viewable and accessible on your system. This can be pretty dangerous really because the folders are hidden to keep you from accidently deleting them. I do not think that FOMM installs anything to hidden folders though. I looked in my own files and did not notice anything.

But if you do have show folders selected then by deselecting it and going back to check the folder in question to see if it is still visible will answer your question for you.

I had a similar problem with another game awhile back where I had uninstalled and then wanted to reinstall it again later and I had lots of problems. I to was told that I would need to reinstall windows but fortunately for me somebody posted about that tool I linked to. For me it worked. Sorry it did not work for you.

You are aware that it has two separate cleaning tools? One says Cleaner. This is for old windows files etc. Right below that Icon is one that says Registry. It looks like a defrag icon. That is the section of the tool that cleans the registry.

I have not had the problems you are having with FOMM so I am not really sure 100% what is wrong or what is causing the problem. I am using both DLC's with the current patch.

So just to cover the basics FOMM does not like being installed in programs 86 or Programs due to UAC conflicts. My own FOMM file path is,

C:\Games\FOMM

I made my own custom game directory in C where I keep all my games and my steam because of UAC problems. Also it works both ways with FOMM and windows 86 or programs. Even if FOMM is installed outside and the game is in one of those folders that can cause problems to.

Ya I know how to make folders no longer hidden (obviosuly would'nt be un-hidden if didn't lol :)) and it clearly noticable as to being hidden by transparency.

I ment is it suppose to be hidden in first place, as I thought it was not before. --> Long ago when I had everything working fine, until I botched up some mods or sumtin for next playthrough for me and my dad again long ago.

I have not actualy tried reinstalling it as the folder/plugins is still there and was unsure if I should try deleting it--> other wise FFnv I figured would not make a new one and would have same issue.

Ya I saw it had registery thing soon after doing the normal clean, but it didn't notice it and was thinking maybe it was because its hidden or just totaly screwed up; I don't realy know. ---> It did delete all the stuff in the programs folder (not documents/mygames->saves and what not) FNV stuff besides data folder because it had a mod I put into it for testing, GEMM (FOMM), and exitdata.mhd.

Ya I know of that rather annoying and risky steam moving thing, but I have gotten FOMM working before just fine before running it as admistrator (though that was long ago before many fallout and fomm updates and the maker ditching it leaving a poor/damaged one - to make a new one),

and have no plans to screw up my other 20 sumtin steam games for it along with steam itself.

THanks for the help though and any further help you can provide.

Make It simple 2 main questions, had another but fogot :

=============================

1) Is plugins suppose to be hidden

2) Is it ok to delete the fnv user/Appdata folder that has plugins and what not

Ok, thought: DO delete EVERYTHING BUT THE ACTUAL SAVES in the mygames folder... (that is related to FONV, of course).

See if that works.

PS: it could very well be, since you botched up the previous installed FON's mods, that even the saves are now useless.

Unless you never saved over them, and you are reinstalling EVERY mod used on them saves.

If not, kill the saves as well...

as for the other questions, no, and yes. :)

Apparently FOMM has been updated since my version. I am using Version: 0.10 which has been very stable for me even with the recent official patch and the new DLC. Looks like the latest is 0.13. Which version are you using? Your game itself can you still run it with out FOMM and load saves no problem? Can you go to any save and load it?

You said that you have recently reinstalled 3 times. When you did this did you make sure that ALL FONV files were also deleted? That means files in My Documents and user apps etc. Any and all FONV files need to go when you want to make a true new install. And did you do this with FOMM also?

If you decide to go the reinstall route one more time and I know it is frustrating but still.

1. make sure every folder/file related to FNOV is removed from your system.

This includes the actual FONV folder in the C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\

2. make sure every folder/file related to FOMM is removed from your system

3. THEN run the cleaner I linked you to on both the windows files and the registry

4. Just to make sure everything is gone after all this use the search programs and files function to make sure no stray folders were left behind.

5. After making certain that there are no left over folders for FONV or FOMM do your reinstall

If you want to keep your current saves and even the FONV Data folder then just move them to a non game folder where Steam can not see them when it reinstalls the game. Now with all the game folders every where gone when steam downloads it will create new clean files every where. My documents any user hidden folders and in the steam folder itself.

Ok THanks deu58 for actually answering my questions rather well.

Good to know that I need to and can delete the hidden folder in my user folder appdata.

Because that what I been asking ^^ as I don't recall having to delete folder with plugins in pass and never knowing 100% if it was 100% safe.

I'm "using" (trying) the newest version, kinda wishing I had moved the old version somewhere for future, but saw no good reason to do so as had no way of knowing would become so bad or it wouldn't cause a single issue in keeping it.

As said reinstalling no big deal other than I have to go watch a movie or something as it installing lol.

ya that folder not the issue, and I deleted saves Ages ago for next playthroughs and fact reinstalling basicaly deletes the mods so would be rather hard to get every mod back up or w/e along with fixing the issues I was having. Though I do have the testing auto saves I guess I got when I did the around 20minute check to see if something bad happens, but those not big deal other than having to do the intro all over again for next testing (yes I know there mod(s) to skip it, but that kinda hard since I wouldn't be able to turn it on and maybe defeat some purpose to the testing if I some how did :) )

Any ways thanks for the reply and everything none the less.

Any And All

=========

1) Has Plugins always been hidden as I do not recall it in far pass being so?

=====

^^^^^^^^^^^

*And if curious as to what I can recall of when I screwed up the mods and everything here a brief summary :

small note: this was done on my dad's and I did occasionaly research all the issues during the times

1st: installed a few huge mods (active wastland, the group of mods that changed the lighting effects among many other things, and some mod that added a ton of monsters I think)

2nd: Than after a decent while started having some crash issues, but figured this NV it happens.

3rd: After another long while fell through the ground at the place you meet Casidy again figuring this NV and that the altering mods were big.

4th: After another long while seems to crash non-stop at a certain area (above the town the legions "attack") <-- trying to avoid any spoiler lol

5th: I Managed to get pass it and arriving at the town with the "dinosaur" noticed the hotel was messed up (very prone to falling into the earth) most likely caused by a mod that alters the room you can stay at

6th: after about 3 loads it no longer doing it so continued on

7th: After a while a few saves seem to become corrupt or something as I think it was either/both loading them/saving on them caused it to crash around 1/2 the time

8th: loaded older saves and continued for decent while

9th: every time it auto saves/ manualy saved/ quick saved it would crash making it impossible to play basicaly

10th: did massive research and help seeking and accidently clicked the f'in name tab above the mods in FOMM for who knows what devil reason it there.... causing every mod to reorganize in alphabet order

11th: do last attempt to salavage including total reinstall of everything

Last: got a quick testing game working with just a couple mods, did massive research, help seeking, and learning of the program that you use to merge mods and check for issues and all that (Not FOMM obviosuly); but.. than I just became way to worn out, stressed, etc...

====================

Thanks again for all the help and any continued help.

A full reinstall is not necessary to fix a registry problem.

Get this program, - CCleaner it is available FREE here: http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html - (Or any other good registry cleaner program)

Install it, but don't run it yet.

Uninstall the game in the normal way. Rename any folders associated with the game - including your save game folder, the game folder and the data folder that it left behind. (if you really want to start over, delete them)

Now, reboot the computer.

Before doing anything else, run the ccleaner program. ( It should take less than a minute) NOTE, It may wipe out some passwords if they are stored by your browser. - so be sure all of your passwords are either backed up or you remember them - All my passwords are stored by keepass and are not affected by ccleaner.

Now reboot the computer again. This should remove any left over registry entries for the game.

Reinstall the vanilla game and test. This would be a good time to make a backup of the unmodded data folder.
