CYMREIG
I know there are 100's of posts about crashes and I've looked everywhere I can think of for possible "fixes" but thus far I have had no luck whatsoever. The game only crashes in the capital wasteland from what I can tell, I got through vault 101 with no crashes and also been to megaton and wandered around for a good hour with no crash, but within 5 minutes of me being out in the Capital Wasteland my game will crash. Its quite hard to describe the crash but what appears on screen is frozen but I can still hear my footsteps, gunshots and if someone decides to talk to me I can hear there voice and the slight beep you get when choosing what to say to them this will last about 20 seconds before I go to my desktop and get "Fallout3.exe has encountered an error would you like to send a error report?" or whatever windows error report thing says I've patched my game to the latest patch, Updated my graphic card drivers a little over a week ago and tried the game on very minimal settings and get the same problem My system specs are :Windows XP SP3AMD athlon 64 X2 Duel Core Processor 4600+ 2.41ghz1GB of RAM (I know I need more but my mobo is being picky)NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+If you need to know any more just let me know Thanks in advance
CYMREIG
Ok so I made it into Super-Duper Mart after about 8 crashes (Really no fun loading the game every 2 to 5 mins) Then decided screw it turned all my settings down to nothing and I mean nothing I can't see anything more than 6ft in front of me and I still crash. The crashes only happen when in the Capital Wasteland if I leave the wasteland to go into a building my game will keep running stable but when I leave of course within a few minutes of running around BOOM! crash >.> I will go get fraps to just so I can show you the crash in detail EDIT: Ok this is just strange now. Since I installed fraps and have have my FPS shown on my screen I've mate it from megaton to Minefield then fast travelled back to megaton and have make it to the something sewers (Don't remember the name its where you are told to go to test the mole rat repellent) I haven't hit a crash yet but if I run into one I will edit this post again EDIT 2: Ok I just got a crash to desktop but this time it was just a clean crash no screen freeze and sound play was a complete freeze for about 2-3 seconds then I'm on my desktop as well as now there is no "Fallout 3 has encountered a problem would you like to send an error report" I'd like to add that this is after I returned the game back to "Default" settings But the crash didn't happen till about an hour into running around wasteland so I've somehow improved my play time at least if anyone else can give some input I would appreciate it Edited June 17, 2011 by CYMREIG
7thsealord
Could be wrong, but I THINK I heard there are major issues when running the game on a dual-core processor system. Believe there is a mod on the Nexus done specifically to deal with this, but don't know where / what. In general, IF you haven't already done so: Kill the Autosave completely. Manual saves only, seriously. Doing just this one thing alnost halved my starting crash rate.If using 'Games For Windows Live', install the Disabler (from Nexus, again) NOW. G4WL does nothing but clag up your system.
CYMREIG
I'm using the disabler and auto save is off want to know the most messed up thing?I just played for the past hour or so without a crash just cos of one reason cos I had FRAPS recording in the wasteland, it only works if FRAPS is recording if I run it in the background with the FPS shown the game still crashes but with FRAPS recording even with all my setting as default the game runs fine Also from what I remember seeing it had an issue with Quad core processors but there is an .ini fix for it Edited June 18, 2011 by CYMREIG
