Problem with Raminus Polus

Recommended Posts

Okay so, I've finished all the recommendation quests. Then, I go back to the Imperial City, in order to talk to Raminus, get my new apprentice rank, the robe, and switch to the next quests.

But Raminus seems to have a critical Alzheimer's disease. He does say me that he has got recommendations from all the guild's offices throughout Cyrodiil, he's happy to say me that I'm now an apprentice, hurray ! And he doesn't give me anything, I remain an associate of the guild, and the quest isn't finished. And obviously, I can't get the staff quest.

Alright, I talk again to him. Today, Raminus is very glad for I'm now an apprentice who has all the necessary recommendations, f*cking great.

And he doesn't do anything else. Etc, etc.

I have found no solutions on the Internet. I'm not very pleased to learn that I'm the father of a new little pretty bug. Has someone got an idea ? :(

...

I have also another problem, more common though. Owyn the arena master, after the second fight, keeps saying me "Okay, so you did it again bla bla bla bla bla" and giving me a bit of money after the second fight. I tried, through the TESC, to remove the "goodbye" trait of this dialogue so as to be able to continue the discussion with Owyn and begin a new fight. But it seems that Owyn doesn't recognize the fact I've already killed the crappy moustached imperial anymore: he insults me, saying that I have already told him that I was going to have a fight in this bloody amphitheater : I can't carry on the Arena fights.

I've seen that I'm not the only one to have this problem. However it seems nobody was able to solve it... I just hope my attempt can help to find a solution. Sorry for my english if I've made many mistakes.

Okay, I have little to no experience on broken quests, but I'm going to try...

First about the Arena; un-do that change you made in TES CS; it's probably game-breaking.

About actually fixing these quests...

If you have Wrye Bash, you can go to the saves tab and attempt to fix the Faction by right-clicking on the specific save you're using and selecting the Fix Factions option.

Another thing you can try is manually forwarding your quest progress ( I believe you can also change your rank that way).

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Join_the_Mages_Guild

At that wiki you can also look up that Arena quest and change the stage.

Open up your console by pressing Tilde ( ` ) and type player.setstage <questid> <stage>

Instead of typing <questid> <stage> you'll, for example, enter the questid and stage there like this: player.setstage MG00Join 100 (That's for the first quest you spoke of)

OK, then your quest's finished, but your rank may still be too low.

If so, use this in console Player.SetFactionRank 22296 1

That'll make you the rank of 'Apprentice' ( 1 ) of the Mages Guild ( 22296).

Information about setting rank from these pages:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Console_Command_Tutorial#Player.SetFactionRank_BaseID_.23

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Factions_M#Mages_Guild

I hope any of that'll help you

Thanks a lot for your help. :)

Actually, I have already done as you say to solve my problem with Raminus. I had also another bug with the staff quest, Raminus keeping saying that he had a task for me and nothing else, but another console script solved it again. The other quests weren't bugged.

The only last thing that worries me is that I would like to play a clean game.

Concerning Owyn, the change I made to him was an attempt to solve my problem. Once I saw it resolved nothing, I un-did it.

No problem

Good to hear that was actually the fix, even though you found out on your own

And well... getting a clean save.. I don't think that's possible once a save is corrupted, but my advice is to use no auto- and quick saves from now on.

It's been reported that those don't work so well for modded installations

It could have just been these quests that were bugged; If your game doesn't crash like mad, I wouldn't worry too much
