Freezing

My Fallout New Vegas keeps on freezing suddenly while playing. This happened in the Vanilla game and after I installed mods. The music in the background sometimes continues playing a 10 second loop or sometimes plays continuously as if there is no problem. I have the steam version and all the available DLC and its automatically patched but I don't know why it keeps freezing after about 30 mins or less of play. I have a 4GB RAM (3GB useable) windows 7 and a duo core 2.2GHZ processor. Graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 4330. Not all my graphics are on high settings so I get a framerate of about 20fps. Sometimes more. My system is not running out of RAM I used task manager to determine that and I also close all background tasks.

 

The only way for me to quit the game is by using ctrl+alt+del and using task manager to end the process (ending the task wont work)

 

alt+tab and alt+f4 do nothing.

 

Is there a fix for this.

 

 

EDIT: I don't get any "program stopped working message" windows acts as if it closed normally. One minute I could be running around in the wastelands, the next the game freezes.

 

 

Lastly, it turns out some of my textures are missing, for objects such as beer bottles. I used the console to select the big red exclamation mark box and the first two digits are 00 which led me to believe that the Main Game esm (FalloutNV.esm) is missing textures. Is there a fix that doesn't involve reinstalling. This happened after installing mods. - listed below

Down load My mod from My signature for the NV version, First try A5f and if it works, remove it and run A7b. This should help a LOT ! If not, I'll come back to check on ya.

Thanks. I'll test it now and see what happens. Just some info as you probably know from my mod list I have Wrye Flash and I also have FOMM as well as BOSS for New Vegas

No more freezing after 1hr of gameplay. Thanks very much. Now all I need to know is what to do about the missing textures. Can anyone please help with this.

I know a way to fix vanilla issues with out re installing the game, you need an extra drive,partition and a flash drive for a procedure to repair the game files.

I've got all 3. Game installed on my C drive, I have an extra partition (D drive) and flash drive (one is 2GB which I prefer and I have another which is 16gb or 8gb cant exactly remember as I haven't used it in a while)

Always use a large flash drive.

Step 01. Copy all files but not folders in the games root directory and place them On drive d: under Backup separate from the project we do here. DO NOT FORGET this

 

Step 1. insert 16gig usb flash drive

Step 2. Start /run type { regedit }

Step 3. Select File menu button, select export and target the usb, Name the reg what ever you wish, Preferred game related.

Step 4. remove the usb Flash drive and reboot.

Step 5 Rename your game folder and the documents MY games folder to hide them from the system , and steam installer as well as the DVD installer.

Step 6. Creat a game folder on that extra partition for the target of our fresh games files. "Now understand one thing, you must never allow steam to enter this location, I don't care what you have to do, but do not allow it.

Step 7. Use the system's control panel add remove program feature to uninstall your game. Don't panic, it will only remove the registry keys, because as far as it knows, The game is not there.

Step 8. DVD time, install your game to that folder on D: drive and DO NOT allow it to launch, or run the game. WE need just the fresh installed files untouched by out side sources. Understand now?

Step 9. Now rename this folder to Hide it too. reboot the PC.

Step 10. Rename The new Mygames folder in your document folder you have just created., And MOVE it to Drive D: this is a default NON ini package before any patching takes place, Ground zero

Step 11. Do step 7 now, Then reboot

Step 12. Run a registry cleaner and remove all traces of activity just done. Temp folder too. Don't forget now.

Step 13. Lucky number 13, well now you have a complete replacement copy of all default unaltered game files before Steam comes in and screws them up, they are safe and incorruptible and never used., You Copy all files to your C:\ game directory Overwrite every thing.

Last step.

Step 14. Undue step 5 ,insert usb flash drive,step 2. select File and Import the saved reg file you made., reboot the system, and run the game, use windowed mode and alt tab out, run task man and verify directory is correct location, your graphics issues should all be gone now and you have no updating or patching needed Except the EXE file, EDIT this I forgot so do this first Step 01. at the top.

Step 15.copy all backed up files from the back up folder from step 01 into your game directory. Now you have a completely repaired default game and a patched game at the same time in to locations, The original now has un molested files from the DVD and the running exe files from a patched and fully qualified Steam game, No update s needed.

ohhh that's going to get complicated, See ,the Steam online edition is in fact different. I have both versions and I can speak from true observation what you are about to attempt is not going to be easy and I can not guarantee you will have success doing it that way. The procedure is a method to avoid Steams involvement to begin with. But I shall wait in earnest to see what your out come shall be. Oh man....That is so hard to wrap my head around. All you need is a copy of the retail version to have incorruptible copies of the files, No steam interactivity. I will put this approach in a note pad on my secondary desk top to try my self later. I wish you all good outcomes with this. Prices are dropping at wall mart, and there are now out lets where you can order the game at lower prices else where on the net. Look at it this way, it's a tank of gasoline, something we all take for granted, I will go find it for you at the cheapest price when I find the time and post it IN you PM
