"Simple" mod: Remove most/all pipe weapons from game tables

I think, out of all the things fallout 4 has had made for it that give it a more "realistic" (read: down to earth, immersive) feel, one thing from the vanilla game ruins all of it, and as it stands, it appears to be annoyingly integral to the base gameplay.

 

the pipe weapons are a joke. I understand fallout 4's overall idea of everything being makeshift or scavenged and taped together

-I can understand someone managing to add nails to a bat

-strapping together a blowtorch and a sword to make a crude shishkebab

-even making a basic trigger activated pneumatic hammer isnt out of the realm of reality.

 

but even someone who knows nothing about gunsmithing understands how absurd the idea of a bunch of angry, illiterate, technologically retarded nomadic raiders and looters are able to manufacture not only working, but fully automatic, sometimes high caliber, incredibly accurate and totally failsafe makeshift firearms that are not only made out of the same, incredibly corroded metal and dilapidated wood, but are all made exactly the same way.

 

I understand that the visual model of the pipeguns are because a randomly generated model for each different gun would be unrealistic, but there's nothing I hate more than seeing the exact same weapon I got from some dingy raider, envisioned myself gathering hardware scraps together and upgrading, on some chump of a guard in diamond city an hour later.

 

That and working to try and find a nice, working prewar weapon, only to realize that the weapon is functionally null and void because pipe weapons are the be all and end all of ingame gunplay. basically; "f*#@ all the normal guns, just make a really good automatic pipegun and you'll be set until you find a legendary laser weapon"

 

My Mod request is this:

 

Remove All (or some*) of the pipe- class firearms from the playable game of fallout 4 from raiders, loot tables, stores, and NPCs. Replace the pipe weapons with a random selection of alternatives, including melee weapons, or level-appropriate firearms and explosives

Most, the only class of pipegun that I can reasonably imagine existing is the pipe bolt actions, I can see a senior raider stripping apart an old hunting rifle, and fabricating a makeshift stock for its rusted, but still working (barely) mechanism. It seems reasonable that a special few raid parties may have one or two of these weapons when harassing wastelanders, but nothing more. something to consider.

Personal opinion!

 

I think that's a bit too extreme. Maybe a redesign of the pipe weapons will be enough. Yes, I think you are right that someone with absolutely no skills in weapon smithing should not really be able to create an automatic pipe-pistol. However: how difficult can it be to put a new barrel or grip to an existing pistol?!

 

The way I would redesign the pipe-guns, is that the people find some pre-war guns (m1911, m9 etc.) but only the trigger mechanism is fine. The barrel and maybe the stock are broken. So they are going to replace the barrel and or the grip to get a "good" weapon.

 

You'll end up with a “pipe”-gun with a pre-war firing mechanism.
