soccerkid2857
My internet just started going pretty slow as I started searching for a way mod in Fallout New Vegas(ex; making myself a nice little home) so I can't keep looking as good but I find something and ended up at the Bethsoft Tutorial GECK Setup. It said it was for fallout3 but it was all I found when searching for NV modding tools and I assumed it worked for both games, but I couldn't get it working. I installed it to my steam folder, I know I got the correct path but when I tyr and load the new vegas esm it says "File FalloutNV.esm is a higher version than this EXE can load". I'm pretty sure that means to update, and I have a 1.5 update for the GECK that wont install because of "Missing or Invalid Registry/INI entry" which I assume is because it's trying to update it from the fallout3 folder which I do not have.. so I'm lost here. Anyone mind helping? :l Edited June 18, 2011 by soccerkid2857
tunaisafish
Yeah the Beth tutorial you are looking at is is still very useful primer :) You've got the GECK for FO3 though. Common error as Beth have made it into some kind of treasure hunt by providing old links all over the place.GECK v1.3 for New Vegas
NorthWolf
The good news is that the FO3 GECK apparently has the libraries for auto-correcting spelling errors, so your download wasn't entirely in vain...

I downloaded two files it said it was missing "libvorbisfile.dll" and libvorbis.dll" I found those files and downloaded them but now I get an error saying something isn't right with the libvorbis.dll file. I'm pretty sure it's because the file that should've came with the GECK download is edited in some kind of way? Or am I not suppost to put it in the folder [C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas] but a different one?
Sunnie
That missing files error "usually" happens when you don't put GECK in the correct place. <br>It goes in the "\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas" folder, where FalloutNV.exe is. For some reason I had GECK files in the data folder so I guess I must have accidentally put them there by mistake. I'll reinstall then I"l update this post about how it went. Edit; Alrighty, yea, I did put it in the wrong folder, but I have got it working. Thanks for the help. soaren
Yes, once you get the geck working, the video tutorials for the original geck will work plenty with the NV geck. So defidently check them out, go through them, they basically teach you a reasonable amount to get started, but your going to spend a lot of time screwing with s*** to get past the level the tutorials brought you to. If you go on the fallout and NV nexus search for mods, but type ion tutorials, a bunch of people over the years have hosted tutorials on the nexus mod site. Can get some good materials from there too. Good Luck.
