Jewel of the Rumare

In the game this reward is a ring, although it's also listed as an amulet in the CS. Is it possible to change it to an amulet in-game? I've just downloaded Xiamara's amulets and the fish design would be perfect!

Of course. You need the Construction Set and the amulet resources to change it. The CS can be found at the bottom of the official Elder Scrolls page of Oblivion (you need the 1.2.404 one): http://www.elderscrolls.com/oblivion/downloads/

You can install the CS, then open it and do something about this (not precise, but to give you an idea of what to expect):

  • at the top left corner, select File -> Data
  • double-click on Oblivion.esm to select it, then click OK to load it
  • when it has loaded, in the Object Window, navigate to Items -> Clothing
  • find the one with ID of "SQ09RingReward" (info from the UESP page), you can use the Filter box at the top if you want
  • double-click the record, it will open a window with all about it in it
  • in the Biped Object list, unselect everything, then select Amulet (this is the equipment slot selection)
  • on the right you need to select the new meshes for it to use
  • click Biped Model, then navigate to your amulet's mesh folder, select the biped one (usually just the normal name)
  • click World Model, then navigate to your amulet's mesh folder, select the world model (this usually has "gnd" in its name)
  • click Icon Image, then navigate to the icon of the amulet (usually in textures\menus\icons\....\*.dds but not always)
  • click OK to confirm your changes, then at the top left corner, select File -> Save As
  • select esp, then pick a name for the mod and save it
  • close the CS and make sure your mod is active in the game

You can optionally clean your mod with TES4Edit in case you edited something by accident. Or if you want to load the UOP as well to see if it has made changes to the object you want to maintain also with your model replacement. And that was just a tiny summary, you can find lots of info via Google, I think. Good luck with your project.

Edit: And also, in case you want to do more modding, there is the almighty Construction Set Extender by shademe you will want to use. The normal CS is just awful - at least after you have tried it with the CSE.

Edit 2: Ugh. Editing a post messes up the list formatting.
