BloXboX
Hello people, Ive been seeing mods all over Nexus about overhauling the menu and other loading textures in the game. but particulary i never liked the way they looked, It was still nice work though. So personaly i would like to know HOW i can replace the menu screen to something i like. I know it has to be somewhere in the Fallout NV Map, But i really don't know where. And i dont want to take a chance by guessing. I might mess up files D: .. So then, Anyone care to help me out? .. Also i would rather not use advanced modding tools. I dont know how to create mods for the game. Just saying that in advance ..
ita
Look for Fallout - Textures2.bsa in your Data directory, use FOMM's BSA Browser to extract the files you want and modify them to your wishes (don't worry, it's impossible to mess up your game simply by extracting files). The file for the main menu is main_background.dds, loading screen file names start with loading_ so just type that into the search bar and you'll find all the loading screens. Hmmm that was a bit confusing. I used the BSA Tool, Then i extracted menu_background.dds from Textures2. But what now? How do i edit the background picture? To be honest with you .. Wouldn't i need to first find a picture and convert it into a dds format so that it can replace it? Or did i just understand this all wrong? I would say try to open it in your photo/video editing program (you may need to change file extension). then after you save it change your file extension back to a .dds Not really sure, worth a shot tho. ita
Changing extensions might mess things up, just get some free image editing software(1,2) capable of editing .dds files and you should be all set.
Rigger1209
Sorry if I necromance this thread, but I´m curious too. When you got your own .dds files for the menu. How will you replace them ingame? I mean Usually I would want this to be part of a mod. So there must be some connections to the plugin itself, but where do you set that? Just curious here. ita
You usually don't need a plugin for simply replacing .dds files, just place the .dds in the right folder (for the main menu picture that would be Data\textures\interface\main) and make sure you have some sort of archive invalidation. The archive invalidation option in FOMM works fine.
