Help requested; a lot of crashing.

Get a program called CCRegCleaner. It's free on Download.com. You need it to completely erase Oblivion's entries in the registry before you can reliably re-install the game. This will also save you the time of ever having to manually locate the uninstall entry in the registry.

 

Delete the texture, meshes, and voice files from your Data folder. (By that I mean the .BSA files, NOT the files in the texture and meshes folders.) Don't empty them from the Recycle Bin.

 

Move your configuration file from My Documents/My Games/Oblivion to a place you'll remember.

 

Open your Oblivion Launcher (which should still be functional) and turn off ALL your mods. Restart.

 

Run the setup.exe on the disc and re-install. After this, re-install any applicable patches (1.2 is the latest) and then Shivering Isles (if applicable). Start a new game without any mods turned on (they'll all still be there, so no worries about that). See if it runs stable without crashes. If it does, turn on your mods. If it continues to run stable after that, lucky you.

 

Put your ini(config) file back in the My Documents/My Games/Oblivion folder.

 

Note: You cannot un-install the game from the control panel/add/remove programs function. It doesn't ever work right. The above is the best way I've found to un-install and re-install the game without problems.

I didn't know if i should make a new thread concerning my crashing problem or not when i found this one and didn't wanna risk getting yelled at for making a new thread when one about the same thing kinda already exists....

 

Anywho, i have been having a Crashing problem with Oblivion, it ran perfectly fine for me almost never crashing till i started installing Addons. i use OBMM and it didn't say anything about any conflicting mods and whatnot but about every 30 minutes or so when i play Oblivion the game just crashes.... it just kinda closes straight to windows... giving no messages or anything whatsoever.

 

I was wondering if anyone could help me out, i am sure it is due to the addons but i always check comments and whatnot for the ones that i download and never saw anyone saying that any of them are causing them to crash. so i am assuming its a load order problem or something, but i have had no luck finding a solution to it by myself. any help someone can give me concerning this would be appreciated.... like links to load orders for like every addon or something like that would be nice :D (although i doubt there are any things like that)

 

Anywho thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with my problem.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like it may be something to do with hardware overheating, have you installed any new graphical mods? If so, what is your computer configuration?

hmm... graphical mods...

 

i use various mods that add new items, new dungeons etc.... not sure if those count.

 

I use Francescos, Beautiful people... nothing that really changes all that much as far as the graphics go i don't think...

 

what exactly do you mean by computer configuration? its specs? or something else?..... I'm not all that computer savvy so i don't really understand most of a computers inner workings and whatnot....

 

but as far as the specs go i run

1.28gb of Ram

2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 Proccesor

256 MB Ati Radeon 9550 Video card

not entirely sure about the sound card....

 

I havn't had any problems with my video card since i replaced it... my last one fried itself and i had to replace it... but it was like 2 years old...

Well, I think your graphics card might be below the minimum requirements (I'm not sure), but it should have enough cooling to stop it overheating even if it's working as hard as it can... do you overclock it at all? If not, do you suppose you could list your load order?

According to the DVD Case thing my Video card is above the "Minimum" requirements although it still has some problems running, it never crashed or lagged or anything really severe before i started using Addons.

 

and i have absolutely no clue what Overclocking is or how to make my computer do it.... if it would help with performance or anything though a link to a tutorial or something that will tell me how to do it would be cool :D

Also i noticed something while i was playing today. about half of the times it crashes are when i try to quicksave......
